Also known as THE WILL TO WIN.

The other day, I was watching the visiting announcing crew call a Kansas City Royals game, when Jeff Francoeur came to the plate. Before it even began, I knew what was coming. The announcers started to praise Francoeur. You know, it was all the usual stuff—great leader, plays terrific defense, bat coming around, wonderful guy. And, suddenly, a question came to mind.

If it’s the last voice I ever hear I’ll die happy, the voice of baseball calling my demise—“And that’ll do it folks”—before reading out the line score of my life.

Personally I'd prefer mine to be Bob Murphy saying, "We'll be back with the happy recap in a moment."

As a Cardinals fan, I'd be happy with "we will see you tomorrow night". I could even put up with Joe's version.

"I don't believe what I just saw" would be a close second, of course. And then comes "hey y'all, watch this!"

The 2004 version or the 2011 version? Joe does that line the same way an imitation tribute band would, like Nearly Dan, Non Jovi or Led Zepagain.

My favorite call of all time is Ned Martin calling Yaz's 3000th hit:

Yastrzemski's got it! And all hell breaks loose at Fenway Park!

But if I gotta hear one thing said while I'm dying, it's Dylan Thomas reading "Fern Hill."
