Despite what the FA says, Halladay has one fewer win than Kershaw. Other than that, the two are about as evenly matched as two Cy frontrunners could possibly be at this point in the season.
Who said TINSTAAPP? Or maybe it's more accurate to say NITWKWTBPPA (nobody in the world knows who the best pitching prospects are).
Still, as a Yankees fan I'd make that trade every time. If I could go back in time I'd include Hughes or Joba instead, but whatever. Kennedy clearly gets his pitching prowess from his awesome beard anyway.
(When In Doubt Choose Halladay :) )
That's not interesting at all. Kennedy has been great and the other two guys have been underwhelming, to say the least.
I always liked Kennedy and wished that the Yanks could have somehow held onto him, but OTOH it wasn't as if they got robbed in that three way trade by what they got in return.
He has 17 games where he has allowed 2 ER or less. And he's only allowed 2 Unearned Runs all year.
He's been really really good. Seems a bit hit lucky...but that is two years running. This year .287 BABIP, which is low but not crazy low. Last year .261. Due to his superior command, especially this season, he's tough to square up and gives up a lot of weak medium fly balls. This year FB BABIP .111, last year .088, NL avg .138
For the D Backs the trade comparison is really Kennedy vs. Max Scherzer, who has been good too. But Kennedy has been better. AND Cheaper. Of course the D backs also got Edwin Jackson, who they spun into Daniel Hudson.
I think the interesting question is which team would have been better off had they stood pat and DIDN'T make the trade.
The Yankees wouldn't have Granderson. I don't think anyone wants to go turn back that clock.
The D Backs obviously wouldn't undo this trade either.
So the only team that MIGHT want to go back in time and undo the trade is the Tigers. Would they have been better off keeping Granderson and Edwin Jackson ?
I don't think Granderson is going to repeat what he's going to do this season, which is hit more home runs against LHP in one season than he had managed to hit against LHP in all of his previous seasons combined. Right now he's got 13 home runs against LHP, after having hit 16 total previously.
But I don't think there's any worry that Granderson's going to go back to being a platoon-worthy outfielder, he's been clobbering LHP non-stop since working with Kevin Long last August.
