$1.44M sounds like a lot of savings to spend further down their draft. And a rare example of a top pick going back in the draft and making a ton more than the previous teams offer.

1. DarrenBut if he does:
27 GS, 165 IP, 110 K, 55 BB, 22 HR, 4.04 ERA, 10-10.
364 Wins!
His ERA would have to be 2 points lower to win 10 games with that sorry bunch.
Edit...I think he'd get crushed.
Yea, he posted a 1.87 ERA and won just 13 games with a team that scored 4.25 runs per game. This team is scoring 3.63 runs per game, and some of that was with Carlos Lee, who they don't have anymore.
Also Jed Lowrie who they don't have anymore and Chris Johnson who they don't have anymore.
He really has. I kept thinking Maddux would eventually surpass him, and it never happened.
I think he'd have a chance against the Astros. Too bad the Astros are the team that wants him to pitch for them.
Exogenous hGH and EPO are not detected by isotope ratio tests.
surpass him in WHAT? As in, more wins, like John Burkett surpassed Sandy Koufax??
From the looks of Clemens, it's more likely that he's taking designer doughnuts.
I believe the subject matter dealt with Alomar's then current capabilities as a MLB player.
When you followed the embedded link, a j-peg of a piece of burnt toast appeared.
That picture is what should pop up on everyones screen the moment Roy Oswalt's name is mentioned
10...I'm not sure he can reinvent himself as a "soft tosser". I see batters waiting and teeing of on his "fastball".
I'm sure that if Clemens dedicated himself to pitching in the majors again, he could add at least a few MPH to that fastball.
That was genius by Szym. Had to be at least 8 years ago (Alomar's final season was 2004), and maybe 9.

Note: this was Danny Bautista. Jose Bautista had already been traded to the Royals in 2004. Gonzalez was Alex Gonzalez.
At this time the Devil Rays had also signed Brian Buchanan, Josh Phelps, Shane Halter, Jimmy Haynes, and Dee Brown, and were about to sign Chris Singleton, Travis Lee, Denny Neagle, and Hideo Nomo. Of those people only Lee, Nomo and Phelps made the team. Other stars such as Eric Munson, Charles Johnson, and Alex Sanchez joined the team at the end of spring training. What an organization!
Rather than playing Alomar at 2B they traded Jorge Sosa for Nick Green at the end of spring training and split the position between him and Cantu. Gonzalez and Cantu split 3B. Bautista retired in March after an ankle injury. Crawford stayed in left field. Gathright and Damon Hollins split CF with unimpressive results. Upton stayed in the minors. Jonny Gomes and Scott Kazmir were the breakout stars. (ROY #3, #9)
