Braves call up Alex Wood, designate Juan Francisco for assignment

With their bullpen depleted by season-ending elbow injuries to left-handers Jonny Venters and Eric O’Flaherty and taxed after covering seven innings behind Kris Medlen Wednesday night, the Braves have called on left-handed prospect Alex Wood.

Wood, the Braves second-round pick last year out of the University of Georgia, has been recalled from Double-A Mississippi and is expected to join the Braves’ bullpen Thursday in Atlanta.

As a fan of the running game, my first inclination would be to say that this would be ironic. But considering it would be Rickey stealing the base, it's really the only possible outcome of the situation as it's configured. It's as if Rickey's actions are determined entirely by his circumstances-- Rickey begins to look less like a man, and more like a perpetual motion machine set into action by some long-dead inventor intent on having his predilection for instigating chaos outlive his physical body...

I have not offered gef's domicile to Joey B. either. I like him too much (as an internet presence, I have never met gef in real life). I would offer Sam H.'s though. It would be sitcom gold!

My parents and I ate at a restaurant in Albany a few years back. Fairly nice restaurant, $8-15 entrees, etc. You could see into the kitchen a bit from the entrance area and we noticed something about the employees. Every single person who worked in the area of the restaurant where the customers were (hostesses, managers, wait staff, even the bussers) was white but almost the entire kitchen staff was black.
