More than any other announcer I know of, Singleton's a master of saying more with less. I don't think it's a coincidence that he and Palmer are two of the best of the local broadcasters, and that they both played for Weaver. I truly feel sorry for any younger Orioles fans** who weren't around to follow them during the first Weaver era. It was like being a jazz fan in the 40's and living in a $50 a month walk-up on 52nd Street in New York.

I will echo the like of Singelton. He makes the YES broadcasts more than bearable.

DL: Were you equally disciplined from each side of the plate?

KS: Yeah, I believe so. I did swing at a bad pitch every once in awhile, but sometimes I did it to set pitchers up. I might swing at a breaking ball in the dirt, hoping to get another one that was a strike, up in the zone. I’d do that every so often, but overall, my idea was to not swing at pitches out of the strike zone. My idea was to force pitchers to throw strikes.

Singleton averaged 98 walks per 162 game season for his entire career, which on a per season basis has got to be somewhere close to top 10 territory. And BTW it's also one more walk per year than Dwight Evans had.
