“Everybody says it’s bursitis,” Johnson said. “I thought if he took some anti-inflammatory it would calm it down, but it’s kind of been lingering. When he runs it swells up. He was jogging in the pool it swelled up from that. We’re concerned so we’ll get another opinion on it.”

One possibility Johnson acknowledged was Harper getting the bursa sac removed. His bursitis is due to swelling in the bursa sac in his left knee.

I don't understand why this kid has become such a lightning rod for criticism. Apparently he can't even smile or look at someone funny; it's as though people are looking for the slightest little thing they can use to jump all over him. Is all of this because of the amount of hype that accompanied him into the league? Because this crap is starting to get out of hand.

This has occurred to me, as well. I can't figure out what's so objectionable about Harper. He's been extremely measured and deferential in his public comments so far, and he's been max-effort on the field. What's the problem, exactly? I suppose there's the perception that the hype superficially outstrips his performance to date, but to believe that you must ignore that he's freaking 19 years old.

And I really hope #10 is a movie quote or something.

For BWV - "Spik", normally spelled with a "k", was a slur for a Latino - someone who is from Latin American and is fluent in Spanish. I say "was" because I haven't heard the term since the 1970s. All things concerned, I think I would have preferred to keep that streak intact. - Brock Hanke

Certainly heard the slur since the 70s. Never once saw it spelled with a "k", though, but I guess it's heard more than said, so how would I know anyhow? Interesting.

I'm going to guess that pasta was drunk posting; the combination of the slur and the use of "calendar", which if it hadn't beeen part of the racism would have been almost poetic.

do any of his teammates have anything bad to say about him? he plays the game the way i like it to be played - i even showed the 1 handed glove missed / caught in hand ball to some high school players i know, like "see guys - here's WHY you use two hands".

I was completely ready to hate him, but he seems great. I think, perhaps, his playing has been overrated while his personality underrated.

I worry we're in danger of overreacting to the anti-Harper ########. Harper's got nothing to apologize to anyone for, but he's also not a boring, say-and-do-only-the-righteous-thing smiling babyface either.

He smiled at the Marlins dugout and mimed that his bat was legal. The "know your place, rook" thing to do in that situation is nothing. Take the disrespect, take the annoyance, and play ball like nothing happened. Harper said the right thing after the game, but on the field he was, let's say, a bit uppity.

I like that. I like Bryce Harper because he's a bit cocky, a bit arrogant, and he's clever enough to be funny when he does it, and he seems like a good enough guy that he rarely goes over the line into full-on heelishness.

The problem with Harper from day one was that he was a prepackaged, Hollywood-parents managed phenom who was apparently groomed for his adulatory public since his dad made the O face in mommy's belly. The fact that his PR people are continuing to manage his creepy ass in DC doesn't make it any less creepy. I'd like the kid a lot better of he'd go get drunk and #### a stripper.
