I was sitting in a part of the lower deck that was far back enough where there were TVs showing the TBS feed, which allowed us to see replays when the rest of the stadium hadn't. I imagine that most of the booing over the Ichiro call (besides the usual "boo when the other team scores" stuff) was NOT coming from those sections.
Fans boo every call that goes against their team. I heard boos a couple of times about strike three not being called, as the catcher turns around to hand the ball to the umpire, because it was in the dirt.
I am still kind of amazed. Did the 3B coach send Ichiro? He's not that fast - the ball beat him easily.
I'm not good enough to immediately replay and freeze-frame his farthest spot as evidence, but it didn't seem so to me. (Note - still an awesome play, but I'm just surprised it went without an argument or note from the broadcast.)
Chen is pitching better than his pitching line probably says.
I will never get tired of watching Ichiro score that run.
Can a player block a base by lying on it? If so, why don't the infielders lie on the bases all the time and allow the outfielders to chase down the balls?
Hardy should have watched his 3B coach, but I'm pretty sure he just couldn't believe a major league SS wouldn't get to that ball.

I guess the catcher could slowly get to his feet
So if the catcher lies on home plate, with the ball, and the runner is standing nearby, it seems like you'd have a Mexican standoff. The catcher's on the plate, the runner is out of reach. If another player came up and the catcher tossed him the ball, the catcher would no longer be legally on the plate. I guess the catcher could slowly get to his feet, and then you'd have a strange sort of rundown, with the runner circling home plate while the defense tried to tag him while not uncovering the plate.
Thome has been in two ALDS's against the Yankees and was terrible both times. He wants revenge. Then again, Thome may well be DHing in the ALDS for the 2031 expansion Shanghai Mandarins against the Yankees and he'll get his chance then.
Did they call an infield fly there?
I wonder if Jeter gets embarrassed on plays like that, where it is obvious that the range is totally gone.
