Clemens looked terrible. He's about as fat as prime David Wells, and had hardly anything on his pitches - according to ESPN, his fastball topped out at 88 mph. If he pitches for the Astros, it could be really ugly.

It's not improbable that he could add a couple of mph in the next couple of weeks as he gets his arm into shape, and he was barely averaging 90 on his fastball the last time he pitched in the majors.
I could imagine less entertaining things than seeing Clemens start for the Astros or Red Sox on the last day of the season.

What is the usual difference in velocity, movement and control between the first pitching of Spring Training and the start of the season?

Now this I want to see.
As opposed to...Jordan Lyles?
Or David Wells after being finished in a feedlot to attain U.S. Prime status.
I'd guess the scout was a friend of Gaetti's....one doing the other a favor.
The Astros might as well play center field for all they've got going on. I hear they're doing an all rule v team next year.
Somewhere between Youkilis and Don Mossi.
If Clemens only through 37 pitches in 3.1 innings he must have been pretty sharp.
