Even if they were to have gotten it, there was too much time remaining for OSU to kick a game-winning fieldgoal.
Which they could have done in a tie game as well.
They had it blocked
Christ, is that 4 team playoff deal ever getting here one year too late. With Auburn, Alabama, OSU and FSU in the semi-final round, you'd almost be approaching an NFL-level of interest.
Yeah, because the Auburn-Alabama game would have been much more interesting if one of the two teams was playing the Iron Bowl for seeding purposes.
Four is necessary because of the imbalance of power among conferences, but more than that is too many.
Dumb comment. If Bama wins, Auburn is done, so it's not like they would have been playing with nothing on the line other than home field.
It indeed would have lessened the stakes for Alabama (though obviously not for Auburn), but it still would have maintained the drama in the coming weeks, as Alabama would have had a chance to redeem itself in a pool that would likely include Auburn and two unbeaten teams.
If Alabama had a chance to redeem itself, this game would have had less significance than it did. You can't have the former without conceding the latter.
Small price to pay to add up to 15 games (if I had my way) of even greater significance played between the best teams in the country. Anti playoff people seem to forget that we want to add a bunch of really great games to the schedule, hopefully at the expense of games Alabama plays against Chattanooga and Georgia State.
But it also would have set up a series of 3 games in January that taken as a whole would have been far more compelling than a (likely) FSU-OSU game.
I'm sure Mount Union fans follow the season closely from beginning to end. No one else does.
Which of course has everything to do with the playoff system, and nothing to do with the fact that it's not division 1.
I think this is the first time I've ever head the big ten be a uncompetitive conference that gives one team an easy road to the championship game.
Please: Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss are as big a collection of mediocrities as you could assemble.
I'm talking about this year Miserlou.
Has this been the greatest day in college football history or what? And has there ever been a better game than Auburn-Alabama? I'm 109 years old and I can't think of any.
and it gives the Big Guys a chance to pile up a gratuitous number of points in the hopes of impressing a bunch of gullible computer programmers in the next week's polls.
Don't count out the Spartans in the B1G championship game though.
