1. base ball chick posted on March 04, 2010 at 03:27 PM # hit 0 | hit 0like i've said before, the REAL problem with the astros is the owner - because he is NOT gonna hire a jack z bcause people like jack z won't "work with" tal smith. and because the owner is NOT gonna sign top prospects because they cost $$$ and because he won't deal with boras, who represents a whole lot of those guys
for some reason, the astros have managed to develop a few pitchers a year, but have no good position players developed this decade (besides pence and chris burke - before he damaged his shoulder) and i sure nuff don't see that has changed over the past 2 years.
the top 2 position players drafted are jason castro (NOT the next mike piazza) who IS gonna get the ML starting job after he can't be a super 2, no matter HOW he does because he has been hyped to death, and jiovanni mier, a 19 year old in rookie ball, who has all this "makeup" and mad fielding skillz
So, bbc, the best the Astros could do as a GM is a guys with a great eye for amateur talent, and scrap heap major leaguers with a real bent for risk taking?
