With McCarthy and Anderson both expected back in the next couple weeks, it'll be interesting to see what they do with the rotation. I assume Griffin and Milone are the most likely to move to the pen, but neither seem to have the type of repertoire that benefits much from relieving (4 pitches, not much velocity).
Gotta like Blackley's attitude:
Blackley had no problem with moving to a relief role. He started off as the A's long reliever in May and worked his way into a starting role. He said he can make himself more valuable by being able to do both things. "And I get to pitch more often this way," he said.
He's also psyched to see Straily pitch. Blackley said he follows the River Cats' Twitter feed, so he knows all those sparkly numbers.

“I never got into the prospect thing, because I never was one,” said Straily, who is from Oregon and went to Western Oregon before transferring to Marshall.
Upon further inspection it seems to be on the Coastal Carolina list of schools that have had more draft picks in the last 5 years than they had had in the previous 40. Three previous major leaguers went there, two big stars (Rick Reed and Jeff Montgomery) and one guy named Joe Goddard.
Looking forward to the game tonight. Hopefully Straily can replicate Tim Hudson's arrival on the scene.
Me, too.
Trying to talk Amazing GF into heading out to the Coliseum for Fireworks Night, but she made an extremely persuasive counteroffer.
We shall see.
Is a BBTF A's outing happening this year? Did I miss it somehow?
A's SP debuts in the Beane era, sorted by game score:
Rk Player Date Opp Rslt IP H ER BB SO HR GSc
...
10 Shane Komine 2006-07-30 TOR W 6-5 6.0 4 1 4 1 1 57
This might've been my favorite pitcher debut ever:
Pitch 1 - called strike down the middle, Komine asks for the ball, they roll it into the dugout, pitcher gets a nice hand.
Pitch 2 - batter deposits ball into LF stands. Welcome to the big leagues, Mr. Komine.

Straily still hasn't been added to the Yahoo! fantasy baseball player universe, and it's first-come, first-served in the league I'm in. I've been trying to claim him for the past day. And they only added Olt right before his major league debut. Stupid Yahoo!.
/fantasy baseball whine no one else cares about and only Matt Clement of Alexandria can appreciate
In my ESPN league Straily was added but does not clear waivers until Sunday.

My yahoo league has about four days of waivers after the player is added. Really, all minor league players should be available for pickup, if you can afford the bench slot.

Griffin was a closer in college supposedly. They could also send Parker someplace to limit his innings.

Yup. It really is just that the people at Yahoo are too lazy and/or uncaring to do this. At WORST a guy should be added when he gets called up to the big club; they can't even manage that.
You can always try adding him manually using his player id #. Yahoo says he isn't allowed in my league.
Wait, what? If I can't find him in a player search in the league, how would I know his player ID?
I think it'd just be us two....so, August 31st Vs. Red Sox? LF or RF Bleachers?
;-)
I'd be down for RF, I think. Maybe I can even get Amazing GF out there for a game... September 14 is the last Fireworks Night, so that's another good possibility.
I know mine would be in to (PS, you stole that name! Makin' me look bad!)...I know I already have tix for each game from 31st-Sept. 4th.....but I'm sure I could talk her into the 14th too....keep me posted, I'd love to gather some steam and see if we can't get a good BBTF crowd out there!
