I think they used up the Camby comps for Davis last year.
Camby like Davis was a much-superior college offensive player than Noel.
Noel may be a better defender than either of them.
Chad Ford got me excited about Oladipo. I still come back to the hesitation that he isn't so good at the shooting and dribbling parts of the game.
And let me just repeat for the record that no one's downside is a better version of Tony Allen.
The T-Wolves owner shot down rumors that Derrick Williams was being dealt to the Knicks. T-Wolves said to be wanting to move up to get Oladipo.
On the radio a while back Flip Saunders was very high on Oladipo. For the "price" I think I prefer C-P.
If he is gone, I think they're stuck with Zeller, and I don't like that nearly as much.
I'm convinced this is just a situation where you have to talk yourself into liking someone. And let me just repeat for the record that no one's downside is a better version of Tony Allen.
i think tony allen is actually extremely overrated. his value has mostly been derived from being a great defensive player on a team where he hasn't been the best defensive player (he's behind gasol in memphis and he was behind perk and garnett in boston). those guys were a force multiplier for him, and i'm pretty sure that if you put allen on sacramento or washington or charlotte, he's one of the least valuable players in the league because he brings no offense to the table and defensively, he's not one of those few rare players who can anchor a defense all on his own.
he's not one of those few rare players who can anchor a defense all on his own.
The Simmons podcast, in one of its few recent episodes (with Ryan Russillo), had an extended comparison of Noel to a MOSTLY-defensive player, Theo Ratliff. During the buildup to this great comparison (I agree, it is a great comparison), I thought they were building up to comparing him to his fellow Haitian-American Samuel Dalembert. So there's two for ya.

Robinson and Wallace were so much thicker than Noel (currently). They were more than shot-blockers, they were post and position defenders as well.
A source said Oklahoma City was interested in packaging its two first-round picks (Nos. 12 and 29) and Kendrick Perkins for a top-five pick. But the Thunder have had no takers either.
Chris Taft (from Pitt) would've been a first round pick had he been healthy.
For one thing, he doesn't do the head down, unconscious barrel into the teeth of the defense thing that TA has always been inclined to do
what did Robinson look like when he was 18
Well Charlotte is in the top 5. Let's not rule it out.
That seems to indicate, with the ball handling assessment, that he's better at getting to the basket.
Like a guy who could rip off about 1000 pushups in 45 minutes.
Marc Stein tweets the Rockets have been offered the #19 pick from CLE or the #20 pick from CHI for T-Robinson.
That's a picture of a 20 or 21 year old Robinson. According to wikipedia, when he graduated high school he was 6-6 and weighed 175.
Oladipo's advantage in 2Pt shooting stands out. That seems to indicate, with the ball handling assessment, that he's better at getting to the basket.
Are Ratliff or Dalembert good comparisons to Noel defensively?
Well I'm not sure any non-big can anchor a defense, so I think that's an unfair standard.
why is it unfair? there's surplus value to having a great defensive center. the fact that that surplus value does not exist for tony allen or victor oladipo or andre iguodala is not something that i think should be tossed aside so quickly.
I'm surprised the Bulls are willing to add his salary.
He also says the T-Wolves are offering Derrick Williams and their two firsts (#9, #26) for a top five pick to land Oladipo or McLemore.
Not that you're doing this maxwn, but...
Careful with off/on stats - Conley grades better in 82games last year than either of the other two - and few would say that he's the best defender of the three (though he is good).
I'd say that Allen (pre-last year) was below average on offense for Memphis, but no train wreck.
I'm not saying it's not possible that Allen is overvalued. But just because it's exceedingly difficult for a non-big to anchor a defense doesn't mean it isn't valuable to have an elite wing defender. I admit I have no idea how to value that properly, so it's certainly possible that the Iguodalas and Allens of the world are overpaid.
I think Anthony Bennett ends up being the best player in this draft
There is very little chance of Dwight Howard re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer, according to sources close to the situation.
How many of those 3pt shots did he get to take?
The Nets and Celtics are discussing a blockbuster deal that would send Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn, league sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports (on Twitter). A possible Nets package could include Kris Humphries' expiring contract, Gerald Wallace, Toko Shengelia, and three first-round picks
The only thing Simmons was SURE about, to the extent of laughing out loud at the naive idea that this was not an open secret that everyone in the know had known for months, was the Deron Williams was going to the Mavs in summer of 2012.
I predict Cleveland trades the top pick. Maybe to Minnesota or Oklahoma City. If its Minnesota, they get Oladipo. If OKC, then its Alex Lem.
I predict Orlando trades out of the #2 pick too.
Washington takes Anthony Bennett
Charlotte - who knows. Maybe Nerlens if he's still there.
Phoenix - Ben McLemore
If the wolves get #1 and take Oladipo ...
I don't think it happens (KCP is my bet at #9), but if so I will be annoyed. Take Noel if you are at #1. If you muct trade up to take Oladipo don't pay too much (since I don't think he is that much better than the other 2 SG or Otto for that matter.
Not that I expect a lot back for Ridnour.
Sorry, but I don't care about the C's part since that's mostly garbage and means they're not sniffing the playoffs for a while.
OTOH, a line up of Williams/Johnson/Pierce/KG/Lopez is quite fascinating. Maybe several years too late, and maybe the Nets will wish they had hired a real coach. But it would be interesting to watch.
Why not hold onto Garnett for something better?
or has Brooklyn already given their 2014 pick away?

I want to go on record (just like I went on record about Kyrie Irvin never being more than a average starter, whoops) that Trey Burke will have a 12 year career, make a few all star games, get some 3rd team all NBA consideration some years, and win quite a few playoff games along the way.
No way is he a chris paul or rose level superstar PG, but I see no reasons he won't be a star on the next tier down.

Boston should not do that deal. Wallace is signed for three more seasons at 10.1M per!
If I'm Boston, I'm willing to ship Garnett and Pierce to Brooklyn - but try to get Lopez.
But if they do that, there's no way they can justify giving up any first round picks, let alone 3.
