    Toledo News-Bee, May 17, 1913:

    One of the weirdest triple plays ever seen in the American league was staged in the seventh inning of the Nap-Athletic contest Friday at Cleveland.     Hey, what does it mean when a player signs a minor league deal with a $1.3MM (or whatever) base salary? All of it is guaranteed even if never spends a day in the majors?

    Hey, what does it mean when a player signs a minor league deal with a $1.3MM (or whatever) base salary? All of it is guaranteed even if never spends a day in the majors?


    If he makes the big league club, he earns $1.3 million (or the pro-rated version if he gets called up later in the year or whatever). Lots of vets sign "split contracts" that pay them one rate if they are a minor leaguer, but another rate if they are a big leaguer.
