    But with no preseason notice, the Nationals front office for the 2013 season significantly diluted the Red Carpet Rewards program, and the number of points needed to buy extra benefits increased dramatically.     With 60% of the fans coming from Northern Virginia and 25% from suburban Maryland, Nationals Park also has a commuter tax effect that allows DC to take in some money that wouldn't otherwise be available.

    [1] That's the aspect that I'm amazed none of the professional economists ever thought about. I had a brief back-and-forth with the economist the article begrudgingly quotes at the end of the article, and he was just unwilling to admit that. The terms changed from "Is this good for DC" to is "Is this good for the region, if you ignore political boundaries?". Most everyone, even those cloaking themselves in data, has an agenda.

    Somebody really missed the boat on calling that neighborhood South Central.

    Last time I was down there, it was a bunch of high-rise luxury condos that were utterly empty for a good two years. Have those started to fill up finally?

    The other big development is the DoT, does that have anything to do with the ballpark?
