The previously highest paid player in franchise history was Carmelo Martinez, who made $490,000 back in 1989.

Chase Headley said he “didn‘t know how to respond” Wednesday afternoon after learning that the Padres are planning to offer their star third baseman a multi-year contract that would make him the highest-paid player in franchise history.

Apparently the posting process is different in Korea, and the posting club can reject all bids if they are dissatisfied with the payout. It will be interesting to see how this works out. I don't know a lot about this pitcher, but it doesn't seem like teams would want to pay him at an elite level.

The FA doesn't go into specifics about Mr. Ryu's talent level. "Can reach 93" on the gun isn't saying much. I used to think that having a Korean star would be great for the Mets walk-up attendance, but it never seemed to make much difference when Jae Soo was pitching. Flushing has a very large Korean-American population.
