Conor Glassey explains the difference between what writers do and what scouts do:
Read More...Yes, we often will write about players we’ve seen and we’ll tell you how fast a pitcher was throwing, what kind of offspeed pitches he throws, or how fast an outfielder got from home to first. That’s not scouting, that’s just reporting. Anybody can sit at a game and hold a radar gun or click a stopwatch.
However, there’s a growing number of people online who think the opposite. It’s baffling to me ...

Interesting that there actually is a (1) active major league player from my (tiny) hometown, but I've never heard of him; he graduated 12 years after me, plays for a rival club, and actually went to high school in another state (per wikipedia).
I don't think I would have guessed Vancouver ~= Arizona >> CO.

are you looking at the same map as Sleepy and I?
a zillion balloons dancing on the head of a pin....
I'm guessing it only includes players currently on an active roster, or who were active on some particular day.
I noticed that there were only two pins in Taiwan, and the outfielder from the Red Sox (now in the minors) was not included.
Well, I think it stinks!
Chad Billingsley (Defiance, OH) is missing, and hasn't missed a start.
EDIT: And the Greek God of Walks (Cincinnati) is also missing, though he was on the DL in May.
Look again. Youkilis is at the top of the Cincinnati list, with 4 others below. And Billingsley is right there in Defiance.
I didn't zoom in enough the first time; Cinci was hidden behind Covington.
However, Billingsley (and Defiance) wasn't there earlier.
Vancouver has a much more moderate climate than the rest of Canada's major cities, and sees very little snow (but a goodly amount of rain). As a result, players have a longer season for games and practice than they do in somewhere like Toronto or Montreal, which would likely lead to players from that area having more developed skills.
This is assuming it's referring to Vancouver, BC, rather than Vancouver, Washington. I can't actually see the map right now.
That's because all our athletes are too busy playing for the Cup right now (linked from the map).
I love that Jim Johnson is from Johnson City, like he was created in a lab to protect the city from a bat-wielding Godzilla.
