2013 Results: Bonds, Clemens, Piazza and Biggio are elected to the Hall of Merit!

Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza and Craig Biggio have been elected to the Hall of Merit!

The timing for our first year electing 4 candidates could not have worked out better, since class of 2013 is the strongest in terms of electees that we’ve ever had. The top of the 1934 ballot included Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins, Pop Lloyd, Smokey Joe Williams and Cristobal Torriente, but only 2 were elected.

Bonds and Clemens were each unanimous at 1 and 2. I believe that’s the first ...

These are original Beatles cards, all from Topps’ 1964 run, with a foil stamp added to show they’re from the new release

I'm not sure I understand this... so they're taking an original 1964 card and then, in 2013, putting a foil stamp on it?

EDIT: Maybe I need to understand what a "buyback" is to get this, but I don't.

I'm pretty sure that is indeed what a buyback is -- that is, a card from a vintage set included in a new series & stamped to identify it as such.

They damn well better. When my nephew was 8 years old, I gave him a CD of the "Beatles 1". He's now a Beatlemaniac, and constantly tells me that they're better than the crap that's on the radio.

True that.

My sisters bought the originals of these. Weird that they lost them - I still have all of my baseball cards from back in the day.

I vaguely recall having Monkees cards when I was about 7-8. I was also a member of the Banana Splits fan club.

And wiki tells me that some of the Splits music was actually Al Kooper, Gene Pitney and Barry White ("Doin' the Banana Split" ... let the jokes begin!)
