Actually KC does have a hockey team. They just use a ball instead of a puck, their feet instead of sticks, and play on grass instead of ice, and call it "soccer."

Not according to the local media or the NHL.com shop. They're the Sacramento Kings, led by star forward Alex Kopitar and defenseman Brad Doty.

The winter classics have had trouble keeping the ice decent even in moderate temperatures. I'm sure you could make an ice rink in LA, but I don't think you could make an NHL game-quality rink outdoors in LA. The game would be a shitshow.

The last press release for the new football stadium (Farmer's Field?) had images of an outdoor rink, so I think if there are at least 2 organizations in LA positioning for this in the future.

The winter classics have had trouble keeping the ice decent even in moderate temperatures. I'm sure you could make an ice rink in LA, but I don't think you could make an NHL game-quality rink outdoors in LA. The game would be a shitshow.

They did it during September in Vegas when it was 85 degrees outside, and the ice actually held up pretty well. Probably better than the ice at Staples when there are five different events in the same weekend. I don't imagine the technology is any worse now than it was in 1991.

They also have an outdoor skating rink during the winter at Pershing Square. I assume the ice conditions for that are poor, but that probably has more to do with having a million crappy skaters out there at any given time.
