Bennett wants to give John credit for being a medical pioneer and he wants to give John credit for missed playing time (he would have got to 300 wins if he didn't lose a season and a half!) but you can't have it both ways. If he doesn't miss the season and a half, he's not a medical pioneer.
Every pitcher with more victories is already in the Hall . . .
With Kaat, if you think Gold Gloves for pitchers is worth much, it is hard not to give him some decent added points - within baseball, I've heard for the last 30+ years that Kaat was generally considered the best-fielding pitcher in MLB history. It's almost cliche, at this point.
The book really rips into Kevin Brown. I can see why he didn’t get more HOF support if that book is indicative of the press’s view of him.
