Will the rotator cuff tear be repaired, or will the joint just be cleaned out, referred to as a debridement? The thickness and location of the tear will likely be the determining factors. If the labrum shows degenerative wearing at the edges, it may only require a bit of smoothing out. If a labral tear is evident once they are in the joint, Halladay will require a more robust surgery. Probably not a good idea to put these words together like this for the headline. I'm not a Nats fan and at a quick glance I thought "Holy ####, Strasburg is having TJS?!!?"

When TJ had his TJS, he went 19 months between major league appearances. Strassburg was barely a year removed from his surgery when he came back last September. I'm not sure that the prototype is really prototypical anymore. And of course, Tommy John was a very different kind of pitcher than Stephen Strasburg is.

It seems like for the longest time, TJS recovery was assumed to take 18 months. I wonder if that was just an artefact of the timing of Tommy John's own injury.

TJ went down in his age 31 year as a pitcher averaging ~5K/9IP, so not the same at all. Interesting to hear all these opinions being erred.

So this Tommy John character thinks he knows all about it just because his parents named him after this procedure? Mike Rizzo knows what he's doing in making Strasburg heir to a new baseball legacy. So STFU!
