“We need some veteran leadership. How you go about finding it is tough to figure out,
Oh, I dunno, Mr. Third-Oldest-Player-on-the-Roster...maybe step your ass up?? Especially when the two older players are preparing to retire (Oliver) and b**ching about the manager to angle for his job (Vizquel).

Are middle relievers in high demand as veteran leaders? This is arguably the most fungible portion of the roster, after all.
Everything went to #### when Jose Bautista got injured.
Up to July 16th: .500 (45-45), but a .524 PWin%
After July 16th: .380 (27-44), but a .365 PWin%

Yeah, the real reason the season failed was probably pitching injuries or suckage (Romero).
But even after losing all those pitchers I was surprised at how well the Jays were hanging in there with a cobbled together rotation. Bautista going down seemed to just end all hope.
I do find it funny how the oldest guy who was brought in for 'veteran leadership' and the guy with the most time as a Jay (Frasor) have said more vets are needed. Lind is not in a position of power due to hitting like a limp noodle and being demoted mid season.
Might be time to find a Kirk Gibson 1988 - a guy who plays hard and plays well. Because obviously an old guy who isn't productive (such as Vizquel) is useless.

Old guy rant:
"We need more people like me. 3 cheers for veteran leadership!"
Young guy (quiet because he has no job security) "We need to get rid of those old farts and give playing time to developing players. And no more Springsteen in the clubhouse!"
The Jays had a much more difficult schedule in the second half, but yeah, losing Bautista definitely hurt a lot. I do think leadership plays an important role. Vizquel was a drag on the team all year, I never understood why he was signed in the first place.
I don't give two shits whether or not Farrell's back next year.
I don't care if you're Mike Trout, you just got your ass traded.

Assuming Boston is still (for whatever dumb reason) willing to offer something of value for him, I'll be really pissed off if he is back with the team next year.

This seems to be a recurring theme among Blue Jay fans. As a Sox fan I'm curious what makes Farrell a bad manager? From what little I've seen he seems unremarkable though maybe with a bit too much of an emphasis on small ball tactics at times.

Sounds like he's saying "We need less people like me who are experienced followers and more people who aren't like me."
