The CBA specifically disallows executives from publicly making comments that could deflate players’ markets, both sides agree. And MLB did recently sent out a memo reminding execs to abide by the rule, so the league isn’t suggesting the execs’ comments were appropriate….
I'd love to see Morales and Drew turn around and sue Boras for malpractice. I'd love to hear about the lucrative deals he no doubt advised them to turn down.
In response to the players union statement earlier Friday calling for an investigation, MLB hinted in its statement that other reasons beyond the unnamed comments are likely behind the players’ current predicaments. However, an MLB official said the league accepted the union’s request to launch an investigation into the situation and will do so…
I can't imagine a suit like that would get anywhere at all. It's ultimately up to the players to decide whether or not they want to accept a contract offer and Boras could easily point to the examples in the past of his players sitting on the market for an unusually long time and ending up with the money they were looking for.
Nothing in Randy Levine's comment that mentioned Trout either yet he's reportedly going to be fined.
How many more game of Cervelli at 1B are going to push the Yankees into seriously considering Morales?
I'm hardly a Yankee fan but why the hell do they need to carry 13 pitchers, especially at this point in the season where they have frequent off days.
I think their first off-day of the season is today.
late in the game McCann took a ball off his throwing hand and speculation was rife who would be the emergency catcher.
Dean Anna. Girardi said so. Apparently Dean Anna and Yovani Solarte will be playing 3rd, 2nd, 1st, while also backing up SS and C.
I am not a Boras fan, but the man will aggressively use the legal system to advance the cause of his clients, and anyone on the opposite side had better be prepared to use time and resources (and spend money), or they will get their asses handed to them in that fight. When you hire Boras, you get a fighter and a darn good one. Any owner who goes in soft against him, in the desire to curry favor with later Boras' clients, is going to regret that approach.
No doubt, Boras employs everything at his disposal to get top dollar... but there was also the Beltre (?) contract issue (that clause around future earnings if you ever choose different representation) that was pretty sneaky/underhanded and Boras has had several rather high profile contractual flops of late.
Boras never should have had Scherzer turn down 6/144. That was flat out absurd.
