Players from both teams trudged up and down one stairway in towels and shower shoes as both teams tried to get their flights out of town.
“It’s an unfortunate situation,” A’s third baseman Josh Donaldson said.
“Kind of a weird thing,” Oakland catcher John Jaso ...

< 1 2Well they don't need to match it because Upton rejected the deal, and he does not have to okay a trade to Texas. Mike Olt and Martin Perez are going to be ranked nearly as high as Walker and Franklin, and Elvis Andrus could be an attractive trade piece. Texas could pretty easily swing a deal without Profar IMO.
If the Diamondbacks are looking for Walker/Franklin, I don't see them settling for Olt/Perez. And as much value as Elvis Andrus has in the abstract, Arizona has little need for another good-glove shortstop.
Well Walker/Franklin is off the table (unless Upton is negotiating for more salary or something), and AZ seems pretty determined to move him. Who else is going to offer a similar deal? Atlanta's offer seems inferior than Olt/Perez.
If Arizona is dumb enough to think they absolutely need to move Upton, I don't know how they should best maximize their return. Maybe taking Olt/Perez now would be the best choice in this scenario, but I really have no idea. They might be better served to wait out the Braves or Rangers or Tigers or Rays or Philly or I don't know. If someone is willing to lay out Walker/Franklin, I'd tend toward waiting for better than Olt/Perez.
Andrus is a 4+ WAR player right now (per FanGraphs and B-R), and he's only 23. I think the D'Backs would find room.

And anybody who thinks Seattle is "cold" has never been there.
That's a pretty good list, actually. I've been to all of them, and while I loved Minneapolis, I was there in September. The Skywalk, scratch that, the fact that they NEED a Skywalk around downtown to conduct business during the winter - scared me so much I won't apply for a tenured faculty gig in Minnesota. I can't fathom that level of cold.
Prado will either be the full time 3B (if they get Upton or another LF) or the 3B against LHP (when they start Reed in LF and Prado at 3B, rather than Prado in LF and Francisco at 3B.)
also why it appears to be impossible to hit in seattle these days?
there is no reason to waste a spot putting houston on the no trade list. houston isn't gonna trade for anyone who costs more than minimum wage - their idea of a high proced FA is carlos pena at 2.9 mill
When did the DBacks get any good glove shortstop? They traded for a prospect from Cincinnati whose defense is unproven, though offset by the well established fact that he can't hit even minor league pitching. And I would have been fine rolling Pennington out, but he's no Andrus, who is signifcantly better defensively and more valuable overall.
Well when you frame it like that...
