Read More...Alex Sanabia is on the Marlins. The odds are at least decent that you’ve never heard of Alex Sanabia before. What’s he all about? Let’s see ... leads the league in losses ... kind of a control pitcher in the minors ... 24 years old ... drafted in the 32nd round, just a round after William Mays ... but pretty nondescript, mostly.
...Spitter. He’s the spit guy. The guy with the spit. Yeah, I remember him. Ol’ Spitface with the spit coming out of his face. Good spitter, that guy. Loves to spit. ...

There's some real dark spots there, but the top 4 in the rotation and the Bautista/Encarnacion/Reyes/Lawrie grouping is a heck of a start to a team. I'd say they are absolutely legit contenders.
I suppose the difference between a 60-win team and a 70-win team is that if you combine all the best players from two 70-win teams, as is being done here (except Stanton), you get a legit contender. Would not be true if the Twins traded all their best players for Chris Coleman and Darwin Barney.
If not, I know a public bathroom at the park you can try.
What you mean like the Tigers?
League into Morrow
Gonzalez into Escobar
Wells into doesn'treallymatterdoesit
Four relievers and Patterson into Rasmus and relievers
And now this.
(The Hill/McDonald trade for Johnson isn't working out so well.)
The Red Sox managed to package an injured Carl Crawford into a deal where the Dodgers took his contract, and the Dodgers seemed happy to do it...
(So much for that being purely a Dodgers-have-money thing.)
Reyes, Johnson and Buehrle are pretty much living up to their contracts, though. Crawford had been incredibly disappointing.
This would be one of those trades that a commissioner should block for the good of the game.
Please shut up.
Please?
Rasmus sucks.
Screw that. Screw the Marlins, they will just find ways to unload these guys piece by piece. I am far more interested in seeing a competitive Blue Jays squad.
I knew there was a reason I liked you.
I guess the only interesting storyline in Miami this year as far as baseball is concerned is what stunt(s) Logan is going to pull get Costanza'ed.
But then you'd get a series of articles about how the Red Sox are getting away from the process that made them perennial contenders or something like that.
Not true. The Marlins were drawing about 11,000 more fans per game until they gave up the season by trading Hanley Ramirez and others. Someone needs to tell Loria that increasing attendance is a multi-year process. You don't do it in half a season.
Still better than Patterson.
Royals aren't taking on salary, especially if its backloaded.
the definitive ######## ballclub of the modern era.
#### em.
Loria is a New Yorker, he doesn't want to trade good players to Boston.
But he'll do it for Toronto, he's got nothing against Canadians. Those loveable lumberjacks were the first ones to let him in the game, picking off that helpless Montreal franchise and running it in to the ground.
Source: Nolasco could be next #Marlins player traded.
"in 20 years, the Marlins have won 90 games twice, and won the World Series twice.
the definitive ######## ballclub of the modern era."
all sports? The NY Giants haven't won a playoff game, yet not won the Super Bowl, in the same year since 2000 - and not won a playoff game yet not REACHED the Super Bowl since 1993.
at least the Marlins didn't win a World Series in a year they got outscored in the regular season, like the Giants did last year.
It's an interesting trade. I don't know nearly enough about the prospects to know if the Marlins got any value at all, but Loria... yeah, he's quite the git.
AA: You are getting very sleepy...
When Beinfest picked up the phone he had Nirvana's "Rape Me" playing in the background.
this is the worst sentence i've ever read a dozen times :(
Red Sox trade Kevin Youkilis, Jed Lowrie, Josh Reddick, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett, Marco Scutaro, Adrian Gonzalez for some relievers, James Loney and some prospects.
Ok, i fudged maybe a tad, but that's essentially correct.
"this is the worst sentence i've ever read a dozen times :("
well, 3, but yeah.
computer froze before I could delete for irrelevance. so enjoy this last pas de deux..
;)
I completely missed the Izturis signing. That would have made me happy by itself. But this trade- wow- I can't even comprehend. Probably the biggest Blue Jay blockbuster since McGriff & Fernandez for Carter & Alomar.
Wonder if he had a no trade?
The Marlins generally don't give no-trade clauses, as it would prevent them from doing things like this.
Source: Red Sox made a push for both Jose Reyes and Josh Johnson, but Jays just blew Marlins away.
