As Chicago’s “King Mike” Cassius McDonald sorta said…“There’s a sucker born every hour”
Not long after they went on sale Saturday morning, tickets to Pearl Jam’s concert at Wrigley Field this summer sold out. The band says it was the fastest concert sell-out in the history of Wrigley Field concerts.
Tickets to the July 19 show went on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. In a Tweet Saturday morning, Pearl Jam said, “Thank you for making ‘An evening with @Pearl Jam’ the fastest concert sell-out in Wrigley Field history!”
By about 11 a.m., tickets to the show could be found for between $50 and $360 apiece on craigslist, and from about $270 to more than $1,000 on StubHub.

Can't find a Bart-uh-man
She dreams of Prior, dreams of Wood
Can't find a Bart-uh-man
And Dusty was someone who insisted on leading off Juan Pierre
Oooh Jim Hendry, the wicked
Ruled his world
Jim Hendry si-gned Soriano today
Jim Hendry si-gned Soriano today
Whoaaaaaaaah, Alfonso Soriano's still available
Each fifth day
The pitcher's WHIP will remind me
Don't call on Dempster
Each fifth day
That pisspoor WHIP will remi-i-ind me
Got to forget this...
Time for a pitching change
I guess it was the beatings made me wise
But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize
I couldn't pitch, hold a lead down
Head hung in shame, facing the mound
Empty gaze, united by jeers
Forced to endure what I could not forgive...
I seem to look away
Can't collect any saves
It was my blown leads most reviled
Aimed at your feet, curve won't go down
Hangs on home plate, ball lands downtown
Empty gaze, united by jeers
Tried to endure what I could not forgive...
Can't make myself feel any interest in something that some self-obsessed whiner took 20-odd years to excrete from his oh-so-preciously artistic bowels, actually.
Hmm. In that case, what Billy Childish album should I start with?
I like mbv, by the way. It feels like a bit of a timewarp, though. Then again, there doesn't seem to be a "time" in contemporary pop music. It's as if all the styles of pop music that have been popular since rock n roll first broke exist simultaneously.
Back when they were sort of sub-Birthday Party or whatever, though, circa the mid-'80s, they were interesting (as I found out via bootleg about a decade ago).
If Kevin Shields is Axl Rose, does that mean Bilinda Butcher is Slash?
Hmmmm.
I'm kind of different in that I love shoegazey stuff, but I've been lukewarm to MBV (old and new).
Though that reminds me that I need to go trawling the 'net for a listen to their non-LP cover of whatever Zounds song they did ... "Demystification," maybe.
Edit: Yep.
Sing Sing is really good. I like the Crocodiles album, too.
m b v is nothing if not a complex album. I rather like it so far (especially "Only Tomorrow" - that closing guitar figure has been careening around my head for days), but I'd rather wait and listen to it a few more times before trying to make any grand pronouncements. This isn't readily accessible music - it takes more than a few listens to figure out what is going on. And if Kevin Shields waited this long to finally release the thing, I think it's the least we can do to spend a little time digesting it, rather than making snap judgements...
I loved Lush, and liked much of the Sing-Sing stuff. Pity that Miki left the music business after Lush folded, but from what I understand, the suicide of Chris Acland hit her really hard, and took much of the joy out of music for her. I can't blame her for quitting the business.
The current shoegaze bands I really like are mostly Japanese - texas pandaa, Cruyff in the Bedroom, and My Dead Girlfriend are all worth hearing, if you enjoy the genre.
Silversun Pickups certainly seem to draw a lot from shoegaze and I enjoy them a lot.
I'm nothing like an expert on the man, but I really a few albums of his:
Nothing Can Stop These Men (w/ The Milkshakes)
Beached Earls & W.O.A.H! (both w/ Thee Headcoats)
Drawing pictures
Of rooftop decks
Ivy on bricks
Tough right-field sun
Flag raised with an L
We will . . . lose this game
