"I threw a bullpen today and I didn't miss a spot," Harvey said Wednesday evening during an interview on ESPN New York 98.7. "I felt like I was easily throwing into the low to mid 90s, with pretty much no effort.
"I know there's a process, but as a competitor I want to get out there as soon as possible."
Collins said he and Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen were supposed to speak with Harvey by telephone early Wednesday evening, but Collins said after the Mets' 3-2 loss to the Washington Nationals that they were never able to make contact with him.
"We tried to get a hold of him, but he was talking on the radio," Collins said facetiously.
"One of the reasons we have tried to back Matt off is how he is mentally. This guy is a bulldog. There is no such thing as low speed or low gear. It's all-out forward. There was a phone call made [Tuesday] where it was, 'Yeah, we've got to back this down,' and [Wednesday] he throws a 27-pitch bullpen.
"I'm going to put my head through the wall."
The Mets have been trying to hold Harvey back, and general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday that Jeremy Hefner's recent setback in his own comeback from Tommy John surgery should be viewed as a "cautionary story" for Harvey.
Alderson also said the Mets may now ask Harvey not to pitch in any kind of game before spring training.
Harvey told ESPN New York 98.7 FM that he took note of what happened with Hefner, but he also made the point that everybody is different.

Terry Collins said Matt Harvey has been advised he's not pitching this year.
