ESPN: MLB Pays For Biogenesis Documents

Major League Baseball has taken an unprecedented step in the Biogenesis of America investigation, paying a former employee of the South Florida anti-aging clinic linked to performance-enhancing drugs for documents on athletes named in the case, the New York Times reported Thursday night.

The move, according to the newspaper, came after at least one player linked to the clinic bought documents from a former employee there in order to destroy them. The Times, citing two unidentified people ...

Obviously Deadspin is all about mocking everyone, but these quotes made Loria seem more likeable to me. Instead of being a soulless corporate glandhanding ####### like the vast majority of sports owners and executives, he's a sort of effete and stylish supervillain type.

And the problem's what (beyond Deadspin's bruised ego)?

I'm not one to defend Deadspin but this is the kind of story that people who don't know much about Loria would find interesting but those of us who do and hate him would find uninteresting because we've seen it all before.

Though I did find his comments on the colors and outfield contraption to be hilarious.

I have to admit for the best high school in the country it has produced what to me is a surprising dearth of really famous people (i.e. not just famous in their field). Who's the most famous Stuy alum to the general public? Tim Robbins? David Axelrod? No presidents, no really famous writers, no famous tycoons. Lots of scientists including 4 Nobels but those guys aren't really famous.

I don't understand why saying those things makes him bad. It makes him awesome. I mean, yes, tax-funded stadiums are not good. But if you're going to build a stadium, at least make it distinctive and interesting, no matter whose money you built it with. Why is the desire to make the tax-funded stadium distinctive and interesting a bad thing, once it's already granted that it's a tax-funded stadium? As for correcting people's grammar, well, that again, like I said, makes him awesome. If I were as rich as he is, I'd act like that. As for being artistically literate, well, he's an art dealer. That makes him a snob? He wasn't insulting you, he was just talking.

I knew a girl who went to Hunter. First girl I ever kissed, actually, and also probably the smartest person I've ever met. Aced the SATs, waltzed into Yale, captained their debate team, etc. #### Hunter.

This is where I should say "CCHS for life" but #### that school too, really. I love my (two) remaining friends from there - and there were some great teachers and a few great administrators - but man did high school suck.

Hey Stuy grads, Lucy Liu and Eric Holder ain't bad, either (I didn't go there, but my college roommate and a bunch of other close friends did). Also, Frank McCourt the author, not the baseball supervillain, was a teacher there.

I think the only famous person to graduate from my high school is Craig Bierko. And he isn't that famous.

My high school actually has a wikipedia page! Our famous alums, evidently. The Harrison twins were a couple of years after I graduated, sadly. It would have been a blast to have been on the same track team with them.

I still think Loria is an #######, but yeah, what's the problem with appreciating good architecture and knowing who Joan Miró is? I've always loved distinctive architecture and its probably the only career that I've been drawn to for more than a couple years at a time. I've never pursued it, other than with my own house.

Matt Stairs went to my high school, as well as Joe Medjuck (producer of Stripes, Ghostbusters, Twins, Old School, Up in the Air, and many others) and Measha Brueggergosman (opera singer and judge on "Canada's Got Talent).

You went to Byram Hills? We used to play you guys, and you'd look down on us for living on the river (or at least that's what the football coach told our guys to fire them up).

Biggest names that I'm aware of from our school: Evan Handler (the bald actor). Less famous is Cynthia Wade, who won an Academy Award for a short film (and was a super nice girl).

I actually attended two high schools. The one I graduated from can claim Pat Bradley (LPGA Hall of Famer) and according to Wikipedia some guy who won the "Beauty and the Geek" reality competition (as the geek). The other school has Mike O'Malley and Mike Lupica. I truly apologize for the latter.
