Most Meritorious Player: 1982 Ballot

For 1982, each voter should rank their top 13 players from both leagues combined.

Balloting is scheduled to close at 4pm EST on 06 June 2013.

Anyone can vote, even if you do not normally participate in Hall of Merit discussions. If have never participated in an MMP election, just post a preliminary ballot in the discussion thread by 05 June 2013.

Braun did really well in the voting. 3 first place votes, named on all 32 ballots, no lower than 4th on any of them. Didn't expect that.

According to espn Cabrera is first Tiger position player since Greenberg in 1940 to win the award, that is stunning to me.

I know carping about down ballot votes is kind of silly, but I'd love to know the thought process behind putting Raul Ibanez on your ballot.

Wow, i assumed the NL would not be close, but I thought it would be closer in the AL. You would think at least a few voters would wonder, why does some other guy hitting more home runs or not make Trout more or less worthy than Cabrera. Etiher way great year by both players. Trout will have plenty more oppertunities.

I wish the talking heads would stop using the playoffs thing in favor of Cabrera, given that the Angels won more games than the Tigers. Cabrera is no doubt worthy of winning the award, but it's not Mike Trout's fault his team doesn't get to feast on the Royals and Twins almost a quarter of the season.

Writers in Scranton, Durham, Pawtucket, Memphis, and Reno don't get any votes. Houston writers probably shouldn't complain.

WAR is not healthy for children and other living things. It causes otherwise sensible people to act as if they gave the award to Adam Dunn. Is Cabrera one of the 30th worst Mvp choices? I doubt it.

I don't know who said hed get buried and ignored, but backlash from this test explain the poor showing in 1st place votes better than, say, the numbers. The NL MVP wasn't as clear cut as the 27-3-2 vote tally indicates.

He's not one of the 30 worst performers to win it, no. But he might be in the top 30 in terms of difference between the guy who should have won and the actual winner.

I'm still trying to figure out how Molina got left off a ballot. I figured the vote would have gone Posey/Molina/McCutchen/Braun somewhat surprised Braun took second place.

Found out it was John Maffei, and he voted for Allen Craig but not Yadier Molina..... How does anyone do that?

...how did Adam LaRoche end up on 19 different ballots?

By being the best all-around 1B in the National League during the 2012 season, and playing a major role in carrying the Nats offensely and defensively in a year where they posted the best record in baseball?

I mean, don't get me wrong: he's no MVP. I'd have a hard time even putting him in my own Top 10 ranking. But if you're asking how on earth he could have gotten votes on so many different ballots (as opposed to, say, why Hunter Pence got even a single vote) then I almost wonder whether you're actually aware of the season LaRoche put up. And not just with the bat -- his Gold Glove this year was eminently well-deserved.

How ironic(and Phil and Walt can confirm this), that here in Aus. "ocker" is slang for, well, an unsophisticated person. Also referred to as a bogan. I suppose redneck would be the U.S. equivalent.
