The shutdown as silly in so many ways but I don't see how it can be blamed for 2013.
This remains a good team -- they're looking at about 86-87 wins -- that got off to a sluggish start but has been solidly above 500 in the 2nd half. The issues here are mainly the fringe stuff -- bench, back end of the pen, 4th starter.
There was probably a 2 win difference between having Soto as your back up and having Suzuki as your back up.
So after 2008 it was perfectly reasonable to think Ryan Theriot would be good enough to be your everyday SS and if he doesn't work we'll just slide Fontenot over and have Baker play second?
Espinosa wasn't a huge problem but I would have sold high on him after last season or at the very least had someone like Rendon down in the minors working on playing second base instead of keeping him at third in the minors.
