Wrestling, squash and baseball-softball made the IOC short list Wednesday for inclusion in the 2020 Olympics.
Three months after being dropped from the 2020 program, wrestling took a big step toward keeping its Olympic status.
Eight sports were vying for a single opening in the lineup.
Eliminated from contention were five sports — karate, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding and the Chinese martial art of wushu.

1. Fly should without a doubt be number !!!!! posted on April 07, 2009 at 12:10 PM # hit 0 | hit 020 years ago in Canada, the school of thought was girls/women do not play hockey. They play ringette. Once women's hockey was made an Olympic sport the growth was exponential. More females play hockey than ringette now.
Wouldn't it be like softball? Except with overhand pitching?
"We'll give you these women, but only if you put baseball back in the Olympics."
I'm Canadian, and this is the first Ringette reference I've heard since Grade 9 gym class. As a result, I'm assuming that Netball must also be an incredibly obscure sport, practiced only by Phys-Ed teachers desperate for something non-destructive to occupy the attention of annoying teenagers.
If it ever took off, I suspect you'd find an awful lot of sidearmers/knucklescrapers, perhaps one-time softball pitchers.
