8 of the Nats 10 wins have come from MIA (5) and CHW (3). They got swept at home by the Braves. They are losing ground because they are not beating anyone but really bad teams.
Seems like there's a lot of that going around. The Rockies are 13-7, which adds up to 0-5 against the two contenders they've played (Braves and Giants), and 13-2 against everyone else.
This is the most Blue Jays game ever.
So we're already to the point in the season where CFB explains why the Cards are better than anyone else in the NL, despite not being better than a couple of other teams in the NL? Nifty.
Besides the only reason the Braves are gaining ground on the other teams is that the Braves got to play the Cubs from the NL central, and Pirates(but we saw what happened there) while the Phils got Cards/Reds/Pirates and the Nats got Cards/Reds
The Braves are up five games in their division and have the best record in the NL because they're leading the league in ERA+ (168) and tied for the league in OPS+ (111), and they swept the Nationals in the only three game series the two teams have played so far.
It's a long season, but a five game lead is a five game lead.
I think that is as much the reason for the Braves early success as anything - they pretty treat the bullpen as a good bit more than that. Their pen has not surrendered a lead or allowed an opponent to break a tie all year.
Yea sanity prevailed...and Boggs didn't come in to pitch the 7th.
His designated inning to blow the game is the 9th.
at this point in time, they don't have a flaw in their game.
Except that they were without their starting 1B for 15 days, just lost their starting RF for 15 days (after having him suck for the season so far), still haven't gotten their All-Star catcher back from off-season shoulder surgery, and their CF and SS have been atrocious at the plate.
Thinking fans should not be discussing win-loss records before Memorial Day.
It was a hit and run you idiot.
I disagree. Win Loss is fine to look at. Standings are a waste. Generally speaking you know you need about 88 wins to make the post season, you need probably 93 to win the division and about 100 for best record, what you do in March/April/May figures into that.
As does...what other teams do. So you probably want to pay attention to that, too.
I prefer TLR's philosophy... 1st get to five games over, then ten over, then 15 over and then look at the standings. He prefers to only worry about your own team at this point in the season. If you aren't going well, it doesn't matter and if you are going well, it doesn't matter.
If I were managing a club I would do something similar. As a fan, you watch the standings too.
Two solo home runs and now a single to right in the second.
Is he pitching against the Braves? :)
