Incidentally, I'm now facing a similar decision with Borderlands 2. I think only the multiplayer really appeals to me here so no point in getting the Game of the Year edition at three times the price, right?
I never play Bethseda games much for actual progression to beating the game, just character progression and exploration.
Today being the last full day of the Steam Winter Sale,
Thematically you can really tell that F:NV is more of a true "sequel" to Fallout II because of the state of the world, where Fallout III's world gave off the feeling that the nuclear bombs went off a couple years ago and everything is trashed F:NV has a world which is in throws of being reconstructed with civilization starting to pull itself together.
Hey, on the plus side I built a basic PC to serve as an emulation machine for my daughter this Christmas, with MAME, and emulation utilities for Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, and Sega Genesis. As a longtime member of the PC Master Race I actually am completely unfamiliar with anything ever released on those console systems, so if anyone could make some recommendations for fun, easy games than I can play with her I'm all ears. Mario Kart is too difficult for her but I was hoping to find something with a similar co-op emphasis.
N64: Mario Kart 64, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Banjo Kazooie, Paper Mario, Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros are the premier kids games imo, and relatively easy. Maybe Mario Tennis, Mario Party.
Are they all sort of farmville simpleton strategy games or do any approach the level of a solid Paradox title or Civilization? I'm pretty confidant that anything browser-based is going to fall well short, but anything promising or at least worthy of killing the occasional hour with?
Worthy of killing the occasional 15 minutes? Sure. Whole hour at a time? Probably not, outside of the very first hour. Most of those games have a free component that is heavily weighted with time penalties. If you want to pay for whatever the speed up currency is, then have at it, but if you do that you can quickly spend way more than the game is worth.
Can you play multiplayer games on Steam that you bought the CD for?
One thing OR's founder said in response to the well-deserved vitriol he's received since selling to the online rectal probes at Facebook is that VR technology like Oculus Rift has already attracted the interest of well-capitalized technology groups (like Sony, most notably) and thus it was too important for OR's future to eschew the value of this influx of capital right now. I can't say I disagree with that sentiment, but it is good to be reminded that we will have alternatives.
pretty tough on noobs
In the same way the vacuum of space is pretty tough on humans.
Any indy games out there we shouldn't be sleeping on?
I love its ambition, even though it's pretty rough I'm glad I'm funding its refinement. It's the sort of survival-horror that's become popular as of late, and even though much of the game is still unworkable (it's still an alpha) you can see the promise.
There's definitely a kickstarter / early access bubble out there that's going to come crashing down eventually, but hopefully in the meantime we'll get some great games that wouldn't have been made otherwise.
The new flash deals just rolled over. One of them is friggin' HL2. Another is only 10% off. Get it together, Valve! I hope this isn't as disappointing as the winter sale was.
And if I may whine a bit: I hate all the metagames. I have no interest in trading, or, god forbid, purchasing virtual trading cards.
Praise be to Lord GabeN, the STEAM SUMMER SALE is here.
I never think about the cards so I went and checked my account. I have a zillion hours in Left 4 Dead 2, how the hell do I not have all the cards?
Sell all the cards. I've easily made more than 10 bucks over the past year on cards. (Which is a lot of cards, but I hadn't done anything with the various cards drops until then).
Sadly, with my contract job and my 13-month-old daughter,
Work. Family. These are the enemies of PC gamers worldwide. This is the sort of oppression that drives people to accept 2 minutes of "Flappy Bird" on the toilet as an acceptable gaming experience.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY THIS GAME. Seriously, look how many hours I've played: Over a thousand.
People make fun of MMO players because they spend so much time working for imaginary goals, but at least they're hanging out with friends and collaborating. I've just been sitting here alone in my underwear in the dark. FOR 1000 HOURS.
I used to be like you. I had friends and family, hobbies and interests. I used to cook for myself and clean my apartment once in a while. I used to have house plants for god's sake!
If I had a choice between having sex with a woman or playing Mount & Blade: Warband, I'd probably still choose sex with a woman.
But afterwards I'd tell her to get the ???? out of my house so I can play Mount & Blade: Warband.
You like stabbing? Yeah i know you like stabbing. You look like the type. This game has stabbing. Is Good.
Mount and blade is one of those games you dream of having. A RPG medieval fps with a bit of strategy thrown in. Its like a cross between chivalry, skyrim and rome total war excluding the dragons and magic, and there are countless hours worth of gameplay with all the in depth politics and schemes you just have to love it and if you want to live it more there are mods.... mods. thousands upon hundreds of mods ranging from ipmerial rome to the napoleonic era and even visiting the world of game of thrones isnt that sublime.
kickstarter sensation Star Citizen game when it comes out. Oh man that looks great.
There's some other stuff for sale too but go look for yourself, I'm going to download Mount & Blade.
I'll be hunting you down, YR, for some more fantastic multiplayer action!!!
But then I noticed this and I was already distracted!
Speaking of which, the kickstarter page for Star Citizen led me to this!
congrats on the incoming baby, they're fun until they start singing songs from "Frozen"
Steam Sales are the last thing I need. I already need to live to be 1000 to play everything.
