Maybe the movie didn’t have enough of the invisible President bit?

In so, so, so many ways TWTC does a much greater disservice to scouts that it does to the stat people. Heck, it merely makes stats-people into unrecognizably cartoonish figures who hate baseball but want to work in it so they can take over the world with their baffling “batting average” statistics. Big deal.

So that year has a powerful meaning for Kansas City baseball fans. Many—most, probably—are just plain sick of hearing about 1985. This is the way time winds. At first, everyone still remembers 1985. Heck, it just happened. But soon, the kids have to be told about it. Soon after those kids are in middle school, then high school, and before long they are in college, they have graduated.
