Now, the Sox have taken it to a new level with the Brothers Drew.

Neither is very good, but there’s something about a Drew that whoever Boston’s general manager is can’t resist, be it Theo Epstein or Ben Cherington.

OK, J.D. Drew had a couple of respectable seasons with the Red Sox. And, OK, Stephen Drew is a good defensive shortstop. Still, starting with Opening Day of 2010, Boston has committed $37.5 million ...

They could have had Manny for an NRI, and he's still a better hitter. The Ortiz $25 million deal was truly stupid, maybe the only really bad one of the winter (we'll see if others join it.)

Ortiz must be near-crippled if the Red Sox sprung for MRIs on both heels. They act like MRI money comes out of the medical staff bonus pool.

They do indeed. First Ellsbury's ribs, then Bucholz's back, now Papi's heels. Just run the tests. I don't understand why not. You pay these players milllions of dollars.

Anyone else watching the St. Patrick's Day game? Apparently it's also "Media Day". So, I guess that's a thing. We get treated to Nick Cafardo's and Pete Abraham's insights DURING THE GAME! I can hardly wait.

Did learn something interesting. Apparently Farrell is planning on playing Victorino in LF at parks with a larger LF than RF. That could end up increasing Victorino's overall value if it can be done effectively.

Napoli made 3 good plays that inning at first base. Ranged pretty well to his right to field a grounder, then jumped to handle Lester's absurdly high throw, and fielded the off-line throw from Iglesias and got the tag on Lobaton. He looks pretty solid there to me.

In another park, Middlebrooks would have had 3 home runs today. Two line drive doubles off the monster, plus a deep fly (error) into the deep part of the RF corner. His power certainly doesn't seem to be suffering from the wrist injury.

Jacoby Ellsbury jammed his leg getting back to the bag on a pickoff attempt by the Philly catcher and left the game an inning later. Victorino then moved to center and banged into the wall making a catch though he's still in there.

I think they're just be careful with Ellsbury. It didn't look like anything serious. I imagine in the regular season he would have stayed in.

Henry Owens just struck out 13 dudes in 5 innings, which is pretty sweet, even if it was against A-ballers.

To be specific, it was against the Red Sox' own A-ballers. Whiffing 13 out of 15 batters is pretty impressive, though, no matter how you slice it.
