Yamaico no problem!
Mike Aviles might have just talked his way into first place.
The Royals traded Aviles to Boston Red Sox on Saturday for utilityman Yamaico Navarro and minor-league pitcher Kendal Volz. The move came one day after Aviles publicly expressed his displeasure at being a utility player…
Aviles, 30, was the Royals’ player of the year as a rookie in 2008 and batted .304 last season after returning from major elbow surgery… He departs with a .222 average, five homers and 31 RBIs in 53 games…
Navarro, 5 feet 11 and 170 pounds, arrives after batting .216 with one homer and three RBIs in 16 games for the Red Sox after batting .280 with 41 homers and 225 RBIs in 445 career minor-league games over six seasons.
Volz, 23, will be assigned to Class A Wilmington after going 2-3 with a 3.33 ERA in 31 relief appearances for Class A Salem. Volz, 6-5 and 225, was the Red Sox’s ninth-round pick in 2009.
