Baseball Fates, please note (please?): I’m just playing around here! None of these things will actually come to pass; it’s just a way of expressing how hot he’s been so far.

Miguel Cabrera finished Thursday’s game #45 with a .391 BA, .701 slugging, 1.168 OPS, 14 HRs, 55 RBI, 39 Runs, 72 hits, 129 total bases, and an OPS+ well north of 200.

The projection multiplier from 45 to 162 is 3.6, so….

It took awhile, but Byrnes work in Az did finally pay off this year.

Having said that, I look at that roster and I don't know how the hell the Diamondbacks did it, and for that I'd look Gibson's way. It seems like he squeezed an awful lot of Ws out of that team.

Why was Byrnes fired anyway? Just a new owner deciding to clean house no matter what? And don't say "LOL the Eric Byrnes contract" because everyone knows that was Jeff Moorad's doing.

In related news, Jeff Moorad's Wikipedia page is looking a bit odd, with that big picture of Jimmy Wales looking anxiously at you, since Moorad and Wales look a lot alike [the main difference being Moorad's huge forehead].

Gibby might be a very intelligent person, but my recollection of his playing days was that he was a hyper-intense red-ass... a football player who brought that mentality to the diamond.

I remember a story of him arriving in LA and some teammate doing a little shaving cream in the cap/glove routine during spring training (gotta get your dugout pranks in midseason form, too!) -- and Gibson flipping out over it.

That doesn't preclude him from being smart, of course, but neither do I think of intensity being paired with cerebral.
