    The main argument against the revolutionary statistics used by BP and other sabermetric research sites and books is the validity of defensive metrics.

    My main argument is the playing time numbers are senseless. They project Moustakas to be mediocre but (I don't have the book with me) give him an unrealisticly low number of PA's. If he hits like that he'll get 600 PA. Does PECOTA predict injury as well?

    BP 2012 features the defensive statistic FRAA (Fielding Runs Above Average), which is the best defensive statistic possible, given the information available to researchers


    How come nobody has jumped on this one yet? For the longest time, it has been my impression that FRAA is the absolute WORST defensive metric, unless they changed it dramatically.

    Yeah, they changed FRAA but I've seen no evidence it's any better than anything else. Luckily for them people buy their snake oil without evidence.

    Isn't it generally a bad idea to use projection systems to measure playing time?

    I don't think I've ever visited bleacherreport.com before, but I wanted to see where he's going to post - I RSS'd him at PSB. What a load of crap that site looks to be.

    Want to get really depressed? Go look up the amount of venture capital Bleacher Report has received over the years. It's enough to turn Gordon Gekko into an Occupy Wall Streeter.

    By the way, this line comes from Bugs and Cranks, not the annual (unless the publisher changed the introduction on me). Between FRAA, Tango's WOWY and MAH's DRA I'm not sure how you'd pick a "best" system.
