Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber announced today that a partnership of global sports powers, Manchester City Football Club and the New York Yankees, has acquired the League’s 20th expansion club. The new team will be named New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and expects to begin play in 2015.
Wait, I thought Manchester United was the Yankees’ fellow member of the Legion of Doom, not Manchester City!

1 2 3 4 5 6 > Last ›That Reus scored 2 goals in a 2-1 win is almost punishment enough.
Though Eamon Dunphy's "Only a Game" is a detailed account of a season at Millwall that doesn't talk much about hoolies at all.
I was scouring Netflix for movies the other day and I made it through 10 minutes of a movie called The Football Factory. If you can believe it, there's actually a sequel--a sequel!--to Green Street Hooligans on netflix. I didn't even bother.
That poor, poor man. My heart bleeds for him. Why must life be so patently unfair?
Well, Torino is Italian so I'm going to put both my hands together and bringing them close to my chest in a beseeching manner. How can you treat me this way, Torino? The injustice is too much to bear!
Supposedly Ganso's agent is in London negotiating with Spurs. This rumor comes from the Telegraph so it may be only 98% BS instead of 100% BS if it were coming from The Daily Fail. In other Spurs news Sandro and Gallas both tore their calves and are out for a while. This has been a rough morning in Shooty Soccer World. If I knew how to get news for Partick Thistle I don't think I even would right now.
You make it sound like some sort of suicide pact...
It's not?
As long as Ken Bates isn't involved it's probably fine.
Rough day for Omar Gonzalez as well. Tore his ACL in training and is now on his way back to the US for surgery. D'oh.
Timmy Chandler was the one who took him out!
“Ganso? I have never heard of him. I don't know him, where does he play? What position?
“I don't get to Brazil much. We got Sandro from there but other than that, no.”
Brazil? Do they play footie over there? Any decent players?
Ugh.
Can I interest you in a suicide pact?
That Earnie Stewart story I linked above is really good, by the way. He seems to be doing very well for himself in Holland. Also...MONEYBALL!
Henry will play for Arsenal against Leeds in the Cup.
Seconded.
When in Rome...
But here is just such an analysis for the Premiership last season.
Blackpool were the best performers by their measure, Liverpool the worst. Tottenham were smack in the middle at tenth, perhaps lending credence to David Hirshey's assertion that without Luka Modric, Spurs are just "Stoke in prettier kits". (Stoke were eighth in the Points Per Pound table).
No doubt Spurs are punching above their weight right now. I do wonder what Arsenal would be without Robin van Persie now. The 1992 Mets?
This is why you need to act like up grown up Mr. Dalglish. What a mess.
Yup. I continue to be completely baffled by John Henry's silence on all of this, and for what appears to be a lack of institutional control over LFC. Actually, disgusted is a better word for it. If I were him I wouldn't be too sure about this being ignored stateside for much longer.
I thought a couple years ago that it might be a good career move for him to try and muscle into a slightly higher-profile team. I'm really glad he didn't do that. Fulham has been a great fit, a place where his talents are appreciated and given full opportunity to flourish.
He scores a lot of scruffy goals, but there's real skill in that.
Of course this leaves yet another opening for Inter to get back into Europe. Criminy.
Super Pippo made a career out of scoring scruffy goals!
MOAR LIKE KLANFIELD AMIRITE???!
At least they didn't throw any bananas on the pitch.
I feel bad for all the reasonable 'Pool fans (of which a few hang out here). This thing has snowballed in an unfortunate way, for sure. I can't help but thing if Liverpool and Suarez had just apologized, cited cultural differences for why he didn't think he'd crossed a line but had learned his lesson and kept their heads down, then the suspension would have been less than 8 games and everyone would be past it by now. I hope Chelsea are taking notes.
I maintain that this is funny, when it happens to Oliver Kahn...
edit: Actually, I take that back. Kompany will miss the CC match against Liverpool, then Wigan and then...Spurs.
He'll miss 4 games because it's his second red card of the season.
For people who don't know this is a reference to what happened to John Barnes in the 80's while he was a Liverpool player.
Stuart Downing arrested on suspicion of assault.
I know, but that's not funny. It has actually also happened to Kahn though, which is.
