Wow, the crowd noise that comes through the broadcast after the crack of the bat is amazing ... and then it jumps another level once the ball leaves the yard.

I heard this on way back home on XM, and have to admit it was really hard to hear the call over the crowd, though the result was obvious.

kind of reminded me of the Dick Bank, 'Look at Mills, Look at Mills (whooaa, whoaaa!!!) call' during Billy Mills' gold medal run in the '64? Olympics.

I am so happy for Slowes, who (with his partner Jageler) needs national recognition as a truly great baseball broadcaster.

He was great calling Bullets radio back in the 90's, too.

Charlie's an excitable announcer, so Slowesgasms are pretty common, but this one was awesome.

#6 Agreed. They have a mic in the booth pointing down to the seating bowl and a couple microphones scattered around home plate, I guess. The Jack of All Things needs to pot those down a bit so that we can actually hear the announcers. Not so low that it's deathly quiet like the Barves broadcasts, but it'd be nice to know why the crowd was so dad-burned excited.

Also, I seriously doubt that Charlie has any pipes left after that call last night.I think they should shut him down for the rest of the post-season.

Love that Billy Mills call. Bank got benched for the rest of the Olympics though, I guess they didn't want people to get excited about the Olympics back then.

Was listening in the car on 1500 AM. Almost completely incomprehensible once the crowd noise hit. "it's...ly ba....A h...un.." Great stuff. What was the comment about a rainy day before the homerun was hit? Something about, "I remember one rainy day...". I guess Werth hit a similar homer before?

The radio clip was 50 times better than the video. I'm a Mets fan, but listening the radio last night was really exciting. Go Nats.

On September 8 the Nats trailed 6-5 after 8½, and then there was a 2½ hour rain delay. Werth led off the ninth, and on a 3-2 pitch homered to tie the game (Nats won in 10).

It was a recent exciting Werth moment. Not surprising they'd mention it on the local broadcast.

I listened to it in my car driving back to Boston. I'd never listened to the Nats' radio guys before. I was actually getting ready to be annoyed about the hokey "summoner" stuff, but then, well, it wasn't hokey. Pretty cool to hear guys who are actually excited rather than professionally excited.

Well this is going to have to be my go-to memory of the Nats 2012 postseason now.... :-(

That's great stuff. I think that's a great example of an announcer obviously rooting for his team while not being an obnoxious homer about it. The crowd noise was insane.
