#2--same here. Always jarring when I see the names of the OOTP superstars pop up on the waiver wire/minor league free agent pile in real life.
I could easily see him landing on one of the crap teams trying to paste together a non-embarrassing opening day roster and space in the corners -- Cubs, Astros, Ms, Brewers, etc.
The more interesting move is Jones being DFA'd. He's been a good find for the Pirates but he's getting old and pricey. I could easily see him landing on one of the crap teams trying to paste together a non-embarrassing opening day roster and space in the corners -- Cubs, Astros, Ms, Brewers, etc.
I'm kind of hoping that the Royals take a look at him--a Garrett Jones/Justin Maxwell platoon in right is damn cheap and I imagine projects as roughly league-average production.
I don't have a good feeling about Jones's ability to rebound. On July 22 he was hitting .260/.309/.448 - which wasn't all that far out of the context of most of his career - but from that point through the end of the season he hit .175/.245/.357. He's looking a lot like another ex-Pirate, Kevin Young, who had a career season at age 30 and then fell off the cliff; by age 34 he was done.
