looks like a combination of a flyer and a salary dump
so why not deal those guys when they get expensive and can bring back interesting pieces in return?
What happens to Brian Roberts?
The Orioles also pick up a player to be named later or future considerations
I wouldn't be surprised if Beane wants to try converting Johnson into a starter a la Derek Lowe, but $10M is a lot to pay for an experiment (or a good but not great closer).
He's traded/signed closers before--Koch, Foulke, Rhodes and Dotel. Mixed results on that lot. Arthur Rhodes remains my least favorite Oakland Athletic of all time.
The opposite: Choice and Bostick for Gentry and Lindblom. Not sure why the A's need Lindblom.
Isn't that a lot to give up for a guy who looks like a 4thOF/platoon partner for Reddick?
The A's "standard" OF, Cespedes / Crisp / Reddick, might be the best in the majors... when healthy.
rthur Rhodes remains my least favorite Oakland Athletic of all time.
