Finally, something goes right!

The Yankees released first baseman/outfielder Juan Rivera, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports...

The Yankees added Vernon Wells and Lyle Overbay this week. Wells, Overbay, and Ben Francisco are making the team, Rivera was told, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch and others.

Missed this on the weekend, not a lot of talk here. This is outright waivers too (as I understand it), no option to pull him back.

If there's any team that might bite on Lind it's the Phillies.

Ty Wigginton: OPS .853 in April (BABIP .370), OPS .447 in May (BABIP .242)
Laynce Nix: On DL with calf injury
John Mayberry Jr: Not terrible, I guess
Hector Luna: Has started two games at 1B this week, which shows you how much the team believes in Mayberry. Grand slam in first Phillies at-bat was good.

With so many shitty first basemen around the league this year, you'd think someone would bite the bullet and claim him. Its not a ton of money and he's young enough to have upside. Plus the Jays seem to have some sort of voodoo power to get other teams to pay for their mistakes (Vernon Wells, Alexis Rios)

I assume that means he makes $8.5 per YEAR, through 2016. Not in TOTAL.

This is how Cots lists it:

4 years/$18M (2010-13), plus 2014-16 club options

10:$0.4M, 11:$5M, 12:$5M, 13:$5M, 14:$7M club option ($2M buyout), 15:$7.5M club option ($1M buyout), 16:$8M club option ($0.5M buyout)

I think it's 8.5 for the rest of this year and next, and then there are multiple team options (that's how Alex likes to roll). He's not expensive at all.

So no, not 8.5 per year.

That looks right. So really, assuming the options are a no-go, it's going to be about $10.75 million for 1.75 seasons and the buyout.

I bet he goes unclaimed, unless the Yanks or Angels want some insurance.

He’s a little bit younger than the Ty Wigginton/Nick Johnson/Wilson Betemit/Casey Kotchman types, but he’s not as good and he’s way more expensive.

Supposedly Lind was not placed on waivers. This is too bad, I had hoped he cleared - he's been hitting well.

Don't the Yankees have Russell the Muscle in the organization?

I think I'd rather play Branyan than Lind at this point.
