    Schu scanned through video and found film of Harper hitting. He arranged clips of Harper and Ruth side-by-side on the monitor and stopped at the moment each hitter’s bat connected with a pitch. In each still picture, he saw a stiff front leg, an uncoiling torso and a back foot lifting off the ground. “Wow,” he thought. “That’s identical.”

    “They’ve got that exact same swing at contact point,” Schu said later.

    The Kid may need to put on some weight.

    Somehow he manages to say all the cliched stuff he's supposed to say, but without it sounding canned and annoying. I'm starting to dislike him for being so damn likable and interesting. Jerk.

    There has never been a player that I've come to have a completely, 180 degree opposite to what I originally had in total nor in such a short time.

    I blame the media for completely misleading me about this kid.

    The media saw a 17 year old who acted like a jerk and said "Uh-oh, if he doesn't mature by the time he gets to the majors, we'll have a problem." But ... he matured.

    I give the media a qualified thumbs-up on their coverage of Harper in his illustrious career at the College of Southern Nevada.

    Well, he cleaned up his image. He's certainly playing the PR part. Then again, Ted Bundy was personable and charismatic too.

    Shocker; a 17 year old who acted like a jerk once in awhile, I'm stunned. I was 17 many years ago, and yeah, I was a jerk. I have 3 teenagers, 15, 17 and 19 and gee sometimes that act like, well jerks.

    I would imagine if I could hit a baseball nearly 500 feet at the age of 17, I'd been a bigger jerk.

    Harper is awesome. And will hopefully continue his awesomeness well into the next decade.

    Nice story, but the headline had me picturing an event like after a soccer game (well, not exactly), where as a sign of respect they .. exchange jerseys.

    A photo of Stan the Man and Harper at some event last year, smiling and handing over jerseys, would potentially link 1942 to nearly 2042. Alas.....

    Not really, no. I recognize(d) that before the injury Chase Utley was a great talent. I never liked him. He wears the wrong laundry. Sports is about tribalism, not drum circles and everyone getting a participation trophy.

    Maybe things are different in SEC World, where you are trained to switch from frantically rooting against Auburn to frantically rooting for Auburn depending on what the implications are for your own team's status in the cosmic hierarchy.
