But does he know the lyrics to ” Let’s Go to the Mall” or the “Beaver Song”?
“LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - How many national teams can boast having a suitable replacement for an MVP winner?
Had Joey Votto’s knee prevented him from playing in this month’s World Baseball Classic, Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman was ready and willing to wear the maple leaf.
“I told the players association to make sure they let the WBC know that both my parents were born in Canada,” Freeman ...

"MLB Network reporter Heidi Watney dutifully attempted to interview Nelson Figueroa immediately after the game, and it didn’t go so well.
She awkwardly directed her Figueroa-related questions to Puerto Rican slugger Andy Gonzalez, whose two-run single in the sixth inning proved to be the game-winning hit..... Gonzalez is two inches taller and 40 pounds heavier than Figueroa. And he has a completely different face."
If you wanted a series after the season for the WBC it would have to be in late November/early December I think - giving all players at least 2 weeks off post-World Series and Japanese Series. But rebuilding the hype would be hard and it would be going against the NFL in late season form, NBA & NHL in early season form. Not a good time to be adding to the sports roster. Spring training though is a period when baseball is only against mid-season NBA/NHL (about as boring as it gets in leagues where everyone over 500 is a lock for the playoffs) and the NFL is long gone. Spring training itself gets a handful of die hards but generally is just a way to get people hyped up for the real thing in April. The WBC, if the US can ever get its act together, could be a good way to up that hype just as teams are trying to sell ticket packages. Imagine if a player does something amazing to push the US to the final game or to win it - that could easily be great for hype for that players team (assuming it isn't a guy on the Blue Jays). Someday that'll happen I'm sure.
Hopefully the US team takes it seriously in 2017. While I enjoy seeing Canada either beat or almost beat the US I know it is silly as the US should slaughter all but Japan when you factor in depth and the like.
