But does he know the lyrics to ” Let’s Go to the Mall” or the “Beaver Song”?
“LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - How many national teams can boast having a suitable replacement for an MVP winner?
Had Joey Votto’s knee prevented him from playing in this month’s World Baseball Classic, Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman was ready and willing to wear the maple leaf.
“I told the players association to make sure they let the WBC know that both my parents were born in Canada,” Freeman ...

Toby Gardenhire is batting 9th for Germany, I would've thought that he was out of baseball.
He is.
Really? That's silly.
I've never heard of a mercy rule at any level higher than little league.
The Spain-Israel game should be along the bottom.
If they had played Sweden without a mercy rule they would still be going.
I think October-November barnstorming would be a much better idea weather wise.
It's horrendous baserunning.
Nice Machadoing by Weaver to take advantage of it, though.
I miss barnstorming. If only MLB could do one of those old Spalding-style rip-roaring trips around the world. I don't care if it's just Curtis Granderson and 40 Minor Leaguers, that'd be AWESOME!
If you go to cool places, I would think a lot of young MLBers would sign up for the all-expense paid trip. Teams might not want pitchers going, but get 12 MLB position players, and let Tim Wakefield do all the pitching.
They also just played "Who let's the dogs out" to pump up the crowd.
I'm not sure which is worse.
Hey, Dickey would go if you make sure that there's some mountain climbing in it.
It's been interesting but the fans have definitely seemed to be into both games.

Yeah, and I bet you could get Clemens too. Especially if you bring along his son to catch his games.
Speaking as somebody who has been Bar Mitzvah'd, I can say that baseball is definitely the most Jewish sport that's in the American mainstream. If the Israelis do make it to the WBC proper, it would be huge not just in the North American Jewish community but in Israel at well. I read somewhere that in Israel the sports pages often cover big athletes of the Jewish diaspora who are doing well in international competition. Ali Raisman was apparently a big deal in Israel during the Olympics. Have to think that if a team of Jewish ballplayers was playing against the baseball superpowers it'd get attention as well.
Okay, so we got Curtis Granderson, R.A. Dickey (on the condition that there is mountain climbing), Tim Wakefield, Roger Clemens and Son, a bunch of young guys, and a few minor leaguers to round it out. Oh, and Rickey Henderson probably would come to, since he's Rickey.
Somebody get the Commissioner on the line.
Hell, Rickey will pay his own way if you let him hit lead-off.
####### right. If Israel makes the big show, if you don't think me and all my baseball-frenzied Jewish friends aren't going down to Miami or whatever to see our boys take on Team Venezuela or Dominincan or Japan - you're nuts. I really, really hope Kinsler and Braun decide to play for Team Israel - but I don't envy their decision.
I mean, do you have any idea how FUN this would be? If I were down in Jupiter today I would be leading "1492" chants all game long.
