Kevin Youkilis needs back surgery, out 10-12 weeks

The injury hits just keep on coming for the Yankees, who announced that Kevin Youkilis needs surgery to repair a herniated disc and will be out for 10-12 weeks.

That puts Youkilis’ season in jeopardy, because 10 weeks would get him into September and any setbacks would leave him running out of time. Youkilis hit just .219 with two homers and a .648 OPS in 28 games for the Yankees after signing a one-year, $12 million deal as a free agent.

I just posted this to the news robot. Rumor has it (and it's a guy who has been right in the past) Cano has failed a PED test, along with Braun, Granderson and A-Rod.

Oh my. A-rod and Braun are no surprise and I don't really care.

However Cano and Granderson would be a huge story. Shame though, as I think I'm in a large camp that dislikes the Yankees but enjoys watching Granderson play. Actually, I like watching Cano play also. Though not a NY fan, this would be a massive bummer for their fans.

If this turns out to be true, what kind of world is this that a guy from the "Dog and Pony Show" is breaking stories? (Is that just a regular sports radio show with a goofy name?)

Well there is the claim there that this "dog and pony show" nailed the Melky story before anyone else..
And of course we all scoffed at Canseco about his claims.

Let me make this clear; I do not want this to be true.

The difference between a good and bad year might be $40-50M over his next contract, so Cano should be properly focused this season, although his Dad suggests he will re-sign with the Yankees.

Robinson Cano's father says he expects the New York Yankees to re-sign their All-Star second baseman rather than let him leave through free agency after the season. Jose Cano says he hopes Robinson will spend his entire career in New York. Jose thinks his son will get a six- or seven-year contract.

Father knows best.

Sounds like his father thinks his son will take a home town discount. I'd be shocked if Boras can't wring a 7th year out of someone, but if Cano is the type that values familiarity and loyalty over another couple dozen million (few are) maybe he will sign for 6 years 130 million.

I wouldn't bet on it though, although who knows with this PED thing floating around.
