Taking Back the Ballparks - Orioles voting thread
  by SoSH U at work

Much to my surprise, there was some debate over the proper name for the ballpark in Baltimore. We all agreed that the existing parts are just fine, but there was some argument over which is the best name for the place.

Here are the choices:

A) Camden Yards
B) Oriole Park
C) Oriole Park at Camden ...

Taking Back the Ballparks - The Voteless
  by SoSH U at work

Based on my assessment of the nominating threads, we’re going to give hall passes to the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, and, with a little less certainty, the Milwaukee Brewers. Congrats to Wrigley Field, Yankee Stadium and Miller Park for making the grade.

Taking Back the Ballparks - Indians voting thread
  by SoSH U at work

We’ve got four choices for the new name for the Tribe’s home park, though based on the nomination thread, the old name is the odds-on favorite.

A) Burning River Park
B) Cleveland Stadium
C) Forest City Park
D) Jacobs Field

Half full or half empty?
by Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington

As most of you know, I’m a natural optimist so I know my answer to that question.  Having said that, it’s pretty hard to feel that great right now about what’s happening with the offense.  There’s been so much talk about launch angle, and how the new coaching group doesn’t teach that the same way, ...

Taking Back the Ballparks - Cleveland Indians
  by SoSH U at work

I visited Progressive Field on the first of a back-to-back with my PNC jaunt. Though obviously overshadowed by its rival to the southeast, the Jake remains a beaut, and perhaps represents the largest improvement from the old park to the new (I guess Cascadia Field, Allegheny Park and China Basin ...

Taking Back the Ballparks - Marlins voting thread
  by SoSH U at work

OK, well we have a similar situation with the Angels vote, though with a twist. Will we go with the very fitting nickname, with a critical other meaning, or settle on something else.

Those who don’t like the idea of a nickname of any type may want to try to rally around one of the other options. ...MORE

Taking Back the Ballparks - Miami Marlins
  by SoSH U at work

Before the Braves moved to the ’burbs, Marlins Park served as the go-to example of shady local political dealings to use public funds to build a new ballpark for the supremely rich. On a related note, Jeff Loria and David Samson were involved in the process.

Now the club is, at least ...

Taking Back the Ballparks - Tigers voting thread
  by SoSH U at work

I didn’t sense a lot of consensus on the name, though I’d peg Tiger Stadium as the favorite going into the vote. The absence of consensus has resulted in a full plate of offerings, including the current moniker.

If you prefer Tiger, choose the letter and the number.

A) Comerica park
B) Grand ...

Taking Back the Ballparks - Detroit Tigers
  by SoSH U at work

Comerica Park is named after a bank. I guessed it was an insurance company. Not much difference, I suppose. Tiger Stadium was once called Briggs. That was named after a former owner of the club. Before that it was Navin Field, named after the protagonist in The Jerk (that may not be 100 percent ...

Taking Back the Ballparks - Cardinals voting thread
  by SoSH U at work

Just four choices this week. If it goes as expected, and Busch is the clear winner, we’ll close voting early.

1) Busch Stadium
2) Gateway Field
3) Musial Grounds
4) Sportsman’s Park

Select One.

Up next: The Cards’ opponent in the first World Series played in this ballpark, the Tigers. ...MORE
