Texas Tech lefty Dustin Richardson's name (5th rounder) is bolded on the BA database which i believe means hes signed. Hes also the only name in the whole dang thing thats bolded (i think) so it could just be a typo, or they havnt updated their signings yet

Kansas City signed CF Nick Van Stratten (#10) and are very close to signing SS Jason Taylor (#2) and OF Derrick Robinson (#4)

I read elsewhere that Richardson had signed. I think they signed Vincent too.

Not yet a signing, exactly, but interesting: Mets' 7th round pick, Daniel Stegall, was a Miami football signee but has informed UM coach Larry Coker he's going the baseball route, leaving the 'Canes with just two quarterbacks on the roster.
   7. MM1f Posted: June 08, 2006 at 08:31 PM (#2056447)
"Stegall, drafted by the New York Mets in the seventh round Tuesday, originally had committed to play football at Arkansas State before he signed with UM. The reason for Stegall's switch to UM: original Hurricanes recruit Pat Devlin switched allegiances to Penn State."

What? Miami was so desperate for a QB they had to reach for a guy whos alternative was Arkansas STATE?

Quarterback hasn't been Miami's best position for some time. The last good one was Dorsey. Brock Berlin, indeed.

"Quarterback hasn't been Miami's best position for some time. The last good one was Dorsey. Brock Berlin, indeed."

Oh i know but they can usually at least bring in some 4 or 5 star guy (Wright and Berlin were both like this)...hell at least a 3 star not an Ark St recruit

What? Miami was so desperate for a QB they had to reach for a guy whos alternative was Arkansas STATE?

Yup. When Devlin switched (which happened after Coker fired the offensive co-ordinator, a totally justifed move -- but one that really screwed up their recruiting), they were up a creek. Now, thanks to the Mets, they've lost their paddle.

Stegall's no dummy. He knew that with Wright and Freeman around, the odds were slim he'd ever get on the field as a freshman. And he also knew that this year, the Hurricanes will be recruiting QBs heavily -- to say the least. They will sign at least two QBs much stronger than Stegall. Signing with the Mets for 7th round money? A no-brainer.

Toledo SS Jason Watson (.366 3 46 5) signed with Arizona as a NDFA.

Downingtown West (Pa.) QB Pat Devlin backed out of a verbal with Miami very late in the process after the mystique and aura of Joe Paterno captured him.

BA lists Longoria as having signed.

To quote a source not often seen around here, the CSULB Daily 49er (the student newspaper):

Longoria signed a non-Major League contract soon after being drafted and is expected to start his professional career with Tampa Bay's single-A club in Visalia, Calif. Although, Longoria expects to be in a Devil Rays uniform in the forseeable future.

"I'm hoping two years," Longoria said in a conference call after he was drafted. "The organization is giving me a good chance to move up. I feel that a couple of year is all I will need."

Pitcher by any other name
   19. MM1f Posted: June 09, 2006 at 07:39 PM (#2057965)
"Are yo•sure yo•weren't drafted? How do yo•spell your name?" Spartanburg High School graduate and current minor league pitching coordinator for the Texas Rangers Rick Adair said to Locke on Thursday before the pitcher was offered to sign as a free agent.

Jeff Locke (of Conway, N.H.), also a left-handed pitcher, was selected in the second round with the 51st pick by Atlanta. When this pick occurred, it was thought that Jared Locke was no longer available.

"How many times do yo•think that will happen? Same first initial and same spelling for the last name. And both left-handed pitchers," Locke's father, David, said."

Isnt this why they use the draft ID and redraft #s? To avoid this.
   20. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: June 09, 2006 at 07:52 PM (#2057974)
Locke was 1-7 with an 11.17 ERA this year in 44.1 innings for D-2 Newberry College. The Rangers can have him...

You'd think that he'd negotiate the contract with the Mets first, so that he didn't lose leverage.
   23. rlc Posted: June 09, 2006 at 08:12 PM (#2058006)
"The Texas Rangers were the first (to call) and I just stopped answering the phone," Locke said of his early-morning encounter with major league baseball.

But Jared, every time a phone rings an agent gets his bling.

Jared Locke, Sr, Newberry College, 6'6/215, BL/TL

2004: 10.80 ERA, 4K/6BB in 8 1/3 IP, 6 games pitched, 1 start
2005: 6.20 ERA, 31K/32BB in 45 IP, 13 games pitched, 7 starts
2006: 11.17 ERA, 30K/34BB in 44 1/3 IP, 18 games pitched, 10 starts

Newberry finished 9-45-1 in 2006.

You would think that a college with a record like that wouldn't attract much interest from scouts.

Anthony Dillenger put up a 263/360/391 line with 47 hits (13 doubles, 2 triples, 2 homers), 23 walks, 6 HBP. He's probably aa bigger prospect than Locke. Even if Dillenger is a Junior.

Evidently though Locke grew over half a foot in 4 years and gained 15-20 mph. I guess the hope is hes still getting used to his new body and stuff.

And its not like hes getting much money to sign. Like 500 dollars...maybe 1,000

That was the age that was given, but several Cuban Web sites
this and this list his birth date as Sept. 2, 1974.

And, in fact, if you check the Palm Beach roster at milb.com, you'll see that this is the birth date that is listed.

Mets signings.

The club announced the signing of 17 of the players it selected last week in the First Year Player Draft, including fourth-round selection right-handed pitcher John Holdzkom from Salt Lake Community College and right-handed pitcher Stephen Holmes, the club's fifth-round selection from the University of Rhode Island.

Also signing were seventh-round selection outfielder Daniel Stegall from Greenwood (Ariz.) High School, right-handed pitcher Nathan Hedrick, the eighth-round choice from Barton County (Ariz.) Community College. The others are infielder Daniel Murphy (13th round) of Jacksonville University, left-handed pitcher Duane Privett, (14th) from the College of Southern Idaho, right-handed pitcher Tobi Stoner (16th) from Davis and Elkins (W.Va.) College, catcher Stephen Puhl (17th) from St. Edward's (Texas) University, right-handed pitcher Nicholas Waechter (23rd) from Western Oregon University, infielder Valentin Ramos (24th) from Sallisaw (Okla.) High School, right-handed pitcher Steven Cheney (25th) from Gulf Coast (Fla.) Updated Cincy and Yankee signings. The Reds also signed #2 Sean Watson.

What's the story w/the Yankees? Do they always wait this long?

The story with the Yankees - and other teams - is not that they wait to sign players, but that they don't always release the news that a player has signed, so unless you have an internal source for a signing, you won't know that the player has signed. I have no doubt that there are other signings (especially in the lower rounds) that haven't been reported yet, and I may not find out about them until the short-season and rookie-ball rosters are released this weekend.

From the KC Star:

The Royals have 14 of their 50 draft picks under contract after signing five more.

The latest: No. 12 LHP Everett Teaford, 22, Georgia Southern; No. 15 OF Nicholas Francis, 20, Pensacola (Fla.) Community College; No. 16 SS Tyrone Wilson, 18, Southern Durham (N.C.) High School; No. 17 C Matthew Morizio, 22, Northeastern; and No. 22 RHP Romas Hicks, 22, Georgia State.

Also from the Star:

The Royals have signed eight players from the draft. They are: seventh round, Brett Bigler, outfielder; ninth, Marc Maddox, second base; 10th, Nicholas Van Stratten, center fielder; 14th, Daniel Best, right-handed pitcher; 21st, Burke Baldwin, left-handed pitcher; 23rd, Aaron Hartsock, right-handed pitcher; 31st, Brandon Lance, catcher; and 50th, Jarrod Dyson, outfielder.

The sixth-round pick, right-handed pitcher Harold Mozingo, has agreed to terms.

Marc Maddox (Southern Miss)
Nicholas Van Stratten (Meramec CC)
Daniel Best (Southern Miss)
Burke Baldwin (Elgin CC)
Aaron Hartsock (California Baptist)
Brandon Lance (New Mexico State)
Jarrod Dyson (Southwest Mississippi JC)

Unsigned college picks

College Juniors: Godin, Chambliss, Pearson
College Seniors: Cribb

It should be noted that Cribb's only stopped from signing due to the College World Series.

Unsigned JC picks: Kurt Mertins (JC of the Desert), Tyler Moyneur (Arizona Western JC), Michael Wheeler (Walters State CC), Steve Rinaudo (American River College), Jared Grace (Pensacola JC), Manuel Garcia (Cochise JC), Mike Dabbs (Cowley County Community College), Brennan Thorpe (Saddleback CC), Bryan Paukovitz and Eric Martinez (Southwestern CC/JC), and Ryan Cisterna (Chandler-Gilbert CC)

No word on which picks are just stubborn and which are "Draft and Follows"

Random stats time!

Jared Grace: 32 for 134 (.239), 9 doubles, 6 home runs. No word on how many walks he draws, but he has 41 runs, so presumably he draws walks. Grace is listed as a 6'5"/215lb outfielder, but he was drafted as a first baseman.

Brennan Thorpe is a 6'7/220lb pitcher who "won the challenge hitting contest at Saddleback the past two years" (according to the Saddleback site). I'm not particularly sure if that's an accomplishment for Thorpe, or an indictment of Saddleback hitting.

Seconded. The more sources of info we have (and people with the time to post!), the better.

Added the list of D'back and Astro signings, as well as some Mets and Padres signings courtesy of USA Today.

San Diego signed supplemental 1st rounder, OF Kyler Burke from Ooltewah (Tenn.) HS. He also was a pitching prospect, but projects as a corner outfielder. Raw and didn't face particularly good competition in high school, might have been a bit of an overdraft.

Mike, I noticed the Braves list doesn't have Cory Rasmus, but this article says he signed on June 8th for $900k.

It does now. Cincinnati signed a few more players as well, according to the Enquirer.

Should be out this weekend, along with the rest of the short-season leagues.

Marlins sign Sinkbeil.

I thought the Malvagna signing was interesting in that he's not a senior (on the other hand, it was his hometown team).
Kyle and Brandon have both linked to a good site for NDFA news (though that's not their main focus): cstv.com. It also has an app for tracking NCAA tourney (and regular season) games.

thanks for the welcome, all!

I'm glad to help chip-in in any way i can.

speaking of NDFA's Der Komminsk-sar, is there any listing of those to be found?!?

Williamsport's initial roster appears on their Web site. It lists both Shelby Ford (#3) and Alex Presley (#8), although Pittsburgh has not yet reported that either player has been signed.

Lowell (Boston) has also released their initial roster. It includes draft pick C Jon Still (#4, out of NC State), who hasn't been reported as signed yet anywhere, and ND international FA Ps Felix Ventura and Ting-Jen Yeh.

Systematic list? I'm not aware of one. The main places I look are cstv.com, all-purpose transactions listings (like the USA Today link in #51), team sites (either minor league teams or the mlb.com team notes pages), and org-wide fan sites (like soxprospects.com and brewerfan.net). Baseball America, of course, has their transactions pages, which are updated every two weeks or so, and a list of 5th year seniors that signed before the draft. You might also find some info on OurSports Central, which I know Mike uses as a transactions resource.

Jamestown Jammers article. According to the article, in addition to Sinkbeil, whose signing was reported today, the Marlins are sending these players to Jamestown, none of whom have been reported as signed yet:

3B Chris Coughlan (#1b)
P Scott Cousins (#3) - who was listed as an OF during the draft
C David Hatcher (#5)
P Donald Czyz (#7)
OF John Raynor (#9)
P Graham Taylor (#10)
P Bradley Stone (#12)
INF Drew Saylor (#13) - who the article lists as a pitcher
P Jay Buente (#14)
INF Jacob Blackwood (#16) - also listed as a pitcher in the article
OF David Mense (#17)
P Ross Lierseman (#18)
P Thomas Davis (#19)
OF Brandon McDougall (#39)

Oddly enough, Guillermo Martinez #15), a shortstop who BA reports has signed with Florida and who was expected to report to Jamestown, isn't in the article. I don't know what to make of this.

Hopefully the Boras clients are out of the way soon so we can focus on the HS signs

The Reds won't sign Kainer, their 14th round pick, as he needs a kidney transplant and will return to school.

Some of the short-season teams have reasonably complete rosters up, and I gleaned a handful of draft pick signings out of them. Most of the SS rosters will be up Sunday or Monday. The NWL starts Monday, the NY-P starts Tuesday.

Mariners sign their first rounder, Brandon Morrow (RHP out of Cal). No confirmation of reports he sprained his wrist while inking the deal.

Cardinals have signed their No. 1, Adam Ottavino.
