And the roster shenanigans start...

The Owens move was made with the express purpose of putting him on the major-league DL, which makes it possible for the White Sox to add someone from the minors who isn't on the September 1 roster to the postseason roster, if necessary (the Francisco Rodriguez clause).

The BoSox recalled Stern from Pawtucket's DL and put him on the major-league 60-day DL to clear a roster space for Pena. Stern hasn't played since August 10, and was DL'd on August 16 by the PawSox with a hamstring pull.

David Pauley was recalled and 60-day DL'd to make room for Mike Burns on Boston's 40-man. Giarratano was recalled and DL'd to allow Detroit space to add an extra infielder if they need one in the postseason (it would likely be Ramon Santiago).

Most of the moves of players from the majors to Class A are paper moves only; none of these players are likely to even report to the minor-league team. It's fairly common to do that late in the season because Class A teams have larger rosters.

SS Paul Janish was moved up to AA Chattanooga from High-A Sarasota. I don't know if it's permanent or temporary.

Probably permanent. The Lookouts have postseason games coming up.

Logan saw action at Triple-A Toledo and Double-A Erie this season. Limited by injury, he saw action in 39 games between the two stops and combined to hit .218 (31-for-142) with four doubles, two triples, six RBIs and 12 stolen bases.
