Cain, who led AL outfielders in defensive wins above replacement this season, was passed over for Boston’s Jackie Bradley Jr., Chicago’s Adam Eaton and Baltimore’s Adam Jones. In the four-game sweep of Baltimore, Cain won the AL Championship Series MVP award.
He's correct that Cain led all outfielders with 2.7 dWAR.

Sabermetrics won! Sabermetrics won!
In other words, for the blogger class, Andrew Friedman is the everyman, not the “working class” player on the field. The goal, dare I say it, was for the “nerd class” to take over the decision making aspect of the sport. They could obviously never compete on the field with world class athletes, but when it comes to determining which players are best and how to put ...

It’s Jeremy Guthrie’s day.
Adam Dunn didn’t invent this approach. It wasn’t a good approach. I followed Dunn throughout his career. Dunn could have been a better hitter if he was more aggressive within the strikezone. I witness countless at bats where Dunn passed up a perfectly good pitch and ended up either taking a called strike or whiffed on a worse pitch later in the at bat. Dunn’s method sucked.
Adam Dunn didn’t do a lot of things well, but he controlled the strike zone. He didn’t expand the zone and when ...

To fully appreciate Posey’s talent, his pitchers say, you need to look into his eyes.
The Freak is feeling better.
Aoki’s defense has been an issue throughout the postseason, with Yost frequently taking him out late in games in favor of Jarrod Dyson while shifting Lorenzo Cain from center field to right field.
So instead of doing that again Yost may just decide to start Dyson and use Aoki off the bench as a pinch-hitter. Aoki is a better hitter than Dyson, but he’s hardly an impact bat and an extra five or six innings of better defense and baserunning could be worth the change.

Hart, 66, was named Thursday to the newly created position of president of baseball operations for the Braves, signing a three-year contract that runs through the 2017 season, which would be the Braves’ first season in their new ballpark just under construction in Cobb County.
The team will still presumably replace fired general manager Frank Wren with another person who’ll report to Hart. Current assistant general manager John Coppolella, 36, is believed to be a frontrunner for that ...
In his paper, Mills attributes between 25 percent and 40 percent of the scoring decline stems from the larger strike zone, and he said that he considered that estimate conservative. The zone may have begun growing about a decade ago, when Major League Baseball began using video to evaluate umpires’ calls behind home plate. But the 2009-10 off-season, when the league put a more comprehensive system into place, seems to have been a turning point. Umpires now receive a report after each game ...

A game can go badly pretty quickly. Last night I was watching the game. With the score tied 2-2 the game channel went out on my television.(There was a power outage at the local affiliate.) By the time the picture came back on, the score was 7-2.
We don’t know what will happen in game 3. The Giants could jump out to a 10-run lead in the first. You close out the wins in World Series games as best you can. Herrera just had six days rest. He has another day off today. Using your three best ...Read More...
There is a lot of money on the line for a few of these players.
“I don’t think I can ever live up to matching a wit with Tony La Russa,” quipped Washington. “What I will try to do is put my players in the right position. If my players perform, I don’t have to worry about matching wits; they’ll take care of things.”
That explains it.
Leavy paid $8,000 for that prime seat to see Royals vs. Giants, and he wasn’t about to give it up.
Marlins Man has been buying the best seats to major sporting events for years. By his count, he’s gone to 27 Super Bowls, more than 200 NBA playoff games, and at least 85 World Series games, and many Triple Crown horse races.
He’s been a Marlins season-ticket holder since the team’s first year in 1993, is a rabid Florida State fan (he was on hand for the FSU-Notre ...

Toledo News-Bee, October 23, 1914:
Bill Murray was on the bench managing the Philadelphia team and Coveleskie, now Detroit’s star was pitching for Murray. A batter reached first. Coveleskie took a long wind-up, and almost before he pitched the runner raced to second…
When Coveleskie reached the bench, Billy demanded:
“Why didn’t you catch that fellow on first base?”
“What fellow on first?” inquired Covy.
“That guy that stole second.”
“No one told me there was a runner on first,” replied ...
The Mets have a Cuddyer need for an outfield bat:
So where do they find a bat? Well, here’s an idea, one that that’s already been floated in the blogosphere, and turns out to be a concrete possibility: Free agent Michael Cuddyer, the exact sort of piece that fits the offense the Mets hope to construct.
Here’s what we mean by that: While Sandy Alderson has long checked in on the Giancarlo Stantons and Carlos Gonzalezes of the world, he and his staff consider it more likely that the Mets ...

In case you missed it, Wheaties made a commemorative box with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on it. For the General Mills cereal, known as the “breakfast of champions,” a one-shot box with Albright is part of an effort to redefine what kind of champions the brand will be touting.
Posey is faster than Sandoval.
No, the Cardinals haven’t disbanded. A lot of good Cardinals info in this article.
